Frees ain’t free. You are fighting other clubs via signing on and agent fees. Undoubtedly less than paying a fee of course.
Football fans are far too blasé about transfer fees. A single £5m transfer represents a cost of upwards of 10% of the entire annual club budget. Probably similar to the costs of running the entire youth programme for a year on the books. Sourpatch is absolutely bang on with the fact that the ONLY path to higher transfer fees is big sales. The ownership already invests in the club to the tune of multiple millions annually. So now it’s a case of what we get offered. Should we accept less for a player with talent so that the fanbase feels more comfortable mid window? Taking that idea further, should we accept a lowball offer for a player with talent and a big future so we can make a slightly bigger signing this summer at all? Does spending £5m instead of £2m on a forward this summer guarantee us an automatic spot or a playoff position - or anything at all? These are all arguable questions and illustrate the difficulty of the task at hand. As always, it’s very easy to guarantee success on a chat forum. For me, we’re having to move forward slowly until our hand gets forced. I think that’s probably just about all a club can do in our position. Using Coventry as an example, they sold big and that opened things up to them. But I bet they had earlier interest for Hamer and Gyokeres that was far lower. It’s a food chain thing for me. We know how the mechanism is gonna work for safc given where we’re coming from. I’m not sure we can force the process though - unless we’re willing to compromise considerably on the outcome. We’re at the mercy of the offers we receive from clubs who have more money.
His pedigree is Arsenal-Barcelona-Man City. It doesn't get much better than that in world football, he must have had genuine world class potential and we're gambling that we have the tools to unlock it.
And keeping him fit, no doubt there's a real talented footballer there if he can integrated into RLB system and press
Well you need to have a word with your source as in all the years of posting on here and RTG you've never posted a single thing that has actually happened
Of course you’d expect us to spend some fees and I’m sure we will but you’d also expect fans to praise smart business.
The man who claims he's not stalking Bob appears yet again with no comments on the thread topic ... ... time you ditched the 'e' on the end of your name, your contribution to the forum is zero tbh.
The stuff Bob makes up is entertaining and no one bets their life savings on it, you're just tedious man. No offence but this must be the 20th time you've come on here just to have a go at Bob ... ... if you're that obsessed why not start a thread.
I've no idea what's true because, like everyone reading everyone, I don't get all precious about it. I was told for certain that we'd agreed a deal for Still and posted that. It may have all been false info but it's just football, not the Stock Exchange.
This idea of depth and our lack of it, is a tad unrealistic. We've got Mundle and Poveda, who both have great pedigree, supporting our wide lads. We've got Adil Aouchiche with 100 appearances or so in Ligue 1. We can't expect to have direct replacements for our replacements, we aren't Man City. The reason I say "tad", is because of the defender situation and less so, the midfield situation. Its more to do with a type of player rather than the quality. Do we, for instance, have the players there if Hume and Cirkin got a knock? Technically, we do, O9 right back, Alese left back, Ballard and Hjelde centre back? The most crucial is obviously Dan Neil going missing. Also think Kyril should be giving the club money to buy a striker. He can take it back when he sells the club or when we sell a player or two. This is an exceptional circumstance.
The nature of football is that things can move really fast, I 100% believe we were close to Will Still signing, whether it was the Lens job being available or some issue during negotiations we'll probably never know. I was told by a very reliable source that the QPR manager was close to signing, I believe that source enough to be convinced that that was real, but something went wrong.
