Im not judging him soley on missing that sitter, im using that as an example. He looks like a fish out of water playing at this level. Hes gone from not even making the bench for Hibs and having old men like Adam LeFondre ahead of him (whos now just signed for FC United), to spear heading our attack in our first Championship game. Hes not ready to be playing at this level yet imo.
Has anyone on here ever played football? He was slightly off balance and tried to poke it past the keeper, very unlucky not to score
You can see in that hes having to check his run, thats why it looked awkward, it has to be in his stride I could also through plenty of clips where the likes of Stewart missed chances like that - i want my striker getting in those positions and he did that, he showed confidence in hitting it 1st time - with more experience he probably would learn to take it on his right foot as that would have given him extra time We won a game with him in it and he played his part for sure
And why was he off balance? Because he couldn't use his right foot so he stumbled to free his left foot up and completely made a hash of what should have been his first goal of the season.
Some fans love writing off players before theyve even had a chance Mayenda 100% needs to work on his back to goal play, thats where he was really sloppy - wanted too much for the ball to come to him rather than pushing off the CB more. I like that he was quick to get shots away, thats a great sign in a striker and its one of the 1st things i look for when watching them. Def has areas to improve but def dont think he looked out of his depth Folk keep going on about that miss, loads of strikers in the championship are missing that
Because the through ball was slightly under hit and he wanted to get it onto his stronger foot - most strikers want the ball on their stronger foot and thats why it looked awkward as he checked his run when hes running at full pace
I could have scored that mate and ive not played competitive football in years. Its nice that fans like you and others try and see positives but theres nothing at all you can say to me to convince me that missing that opportunity was acceptable in any way. He's young and he'll get better but he should be nowhere near our first team imo. Im just being brutally honest. Id love to sit here and big him up like you and some other posters are, but i honestly think he's out his depth and he'd be nowhere near any other team in this leagues first team squad if he played for them.
It was a perfect ball ffs . It was put on a plate for him, what more could he have possibly asked for?
Yeah I seen enough to be happy with him being in and around the squad this season. Thought he offered just as much, if not more than Robinson, Kanga and Meite did for Cardiff. You mentioned it before but he did show that he can hold the ball up well, just made a poor decision after it. His hold and link with Jobe for the shot he had that was blocked was nice. His movement was pretty good, drifting wide for the shot he put wide and the dart in behind for the right footed shot he had. I don't think RLB will do it but i'd start him again on Tuesday.
This whole 'i could have scored it', is just utter p**h!! The best strikers in the world miss chances like this, bet mayenda himself will score that more times than not. Im not bigging him up tho, i focus on all aspects of his game rather than continuing to go on about 1 missed chanced - a chance that our strikers last yr wouldnt have got in too miss. I couldnt care less if he would be near anyone elses 1st team, he has earned his right to start for us and there were aspects of his game that i really liked and others where i have been critical on The difference is some of us comment on where he can improve rather than totally writting him off and branding him as the worst striker weve ever had Ill always give plays a chance to prove to me whether they are good enough, hes not had enough chances yet but i guarantee if he keeps having 4 shots every game he will start to score goals sooner rather than later
I wouldn't mind him starting in the Cup so he can get some vital experience but the league is our priority and i dont want to see him near our first team. Id live to see him go down to League 1 on loan and hopefully get game time, because Hibs didnt show any confidence in him last season to even have him on the bench for alot of the time he was there.
It wasnt for a left footed tho, thats why he checked his run!!!! I trust my eye why watching aspects like that in a game as i have to do it regularly when watching players That's why its akward as youve said several times
Rangers didnt show any confidence in Amad n look at how he did!! Hibs were a joke last season and their manager was fighting for his job so kept playing the experienced players Thats why he didnt play
Yes i know your a scout, but any striker should be able to hit the ball with their weaker foot when in that position and cushion it into the goal. What do you expect our players to do in future before passing to him? Oh loom its Mayenda id better make sure he can hit it with his left foot
100%, for me he was the best striker on the pitch yesterday. Im not saying he should be 1st choice striker this yr as its clear we need someone else but i like the look of him and think he can play his part this season His movement for the most part was good and he helped defensively as well, blocked passing lines with jobe!! I've heard some really positive things about his attitdue and his willingness to learn - which is areas that Hemir struggles in appartently
Actually that's a great point that I didn't notice, or consider. Yes, now that you've pointed it out, he does need further,'Back to goal' coaching.... Good call !
You do know most players will consider stuff like that? Theyll consider what foot they should play it to, so when they pass to roberts theyll be looking to play to his left foot unless thats the side the defender is at I have said several times that he should have taken it on his right so please read my responses! I just explained why it looked awkward because he wanted to check his run I said he should have taken it on his right, doesnt mean the end result would have been any better tho If you dont believe there was a single positive from his performance then theres no point going back n forward
Yes i know thats why it looked awkward, ive already said that myself on previous posts, it was because he was trying to free his left foot instead of instinctively striking it with his right. He couldn't have asked for a much better ball, it was put on a plate for him.
