Frank Sinatra -Summer Wind (1966) (youtube.com) i'll guarantee one thing if you're young now you'll be a Sinatra fan eventually
back to La vie en rose , by a lad from up here who played with some canny lasses from across the pond including this one .
Following on with Grace Jones this version is class . Like a bit of drama in a song. Now decide which is best ? Both brilliant for me. Grace probably ?
My favourite rendition of LVER on you tube by Jones is the one she did live on an Italian TV show in which the intro by the presenter takes up far too much of a long video but its worth watching and better imo than the Version I'v posted. The first time I saw her, she this song live onea Saturday afternoon outside broadcast from a Summer Pavilion , years ago in Brighton I think , she completely stole the show , and I have been a fan of hers ever since, she like Piaf is a one off , but the comparisons end there. I posted this version as I knew John Miles through Annabels and the Shields lads who used to frequent the place back in the day.
Seeing @cracket latest presentation reminds me of this band. They’re essentially a covers band from Spain. Every year they do a Halloween special. Visually, to me anyway, quite impressive.
I'm not overly impressed by most pop music but, every now and again, something comes along that just hits the right note. This song is quite understated but powerful at the same time ... great melody, wonderful vocals and poignant lyrics which I've posted in case anyone wants to listen. People I know, places I go, make me feel tongue-tied And I can see how, people look down They're on the inside Here's where the story ends People I see, weary of me showing my good side And I can see how people look down I'm on the outside Here's where the story ends Oh, here's where the story ends It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year, which makes my eyes feel sore Oh, I never should have said, the books that you read were all I loved you for It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year, which makes me wonder why And it's the memories of your shed, that make me turn red Surprise, surprise, surprise Crazy I know, places I go make me feel so tired And I can see how, people look down I'm on the outside Oh, here's where the story ends Ooh, here's where the story ends It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year, which makes my eyes feel sore And whoever would've thought, the books that you bought were all I loved you for? Oh, the devil in me said, "Go down to the shed I know where I belong" But the only thing I ever really wanted to say was wrong, was wrong, was wrong It's that little souvenir, of a colorful year, which makes me smile inside So I cynically, cynically say, "The world is that way Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise" Here's where the story ends Ooh, here's where the story ends
Been having a bit of a youtube music night in my sick bed and came across this gem which I've never heard before. An audio recording of Led Zeppelin rehearsing an early version of Staiway To Heaven. The melody and song structure is there, but there is some different lyrics and also "LaLaLa's" where they hadn't come up with lyrics yet. The final verse is missing, but I thought it was a great insight into what would become a classic song.
Outrageous that mate. That was one of the reasons I posted the Guns n Roses track earlier, apparently they were all never in the studio at the same time to put sympathy for the devil together. All done separately but still sounds class. I love Stairway to Heaven as well. Stunning.
We must have crossed paths mate, i was a regular at the Bay, Locarno and the Cellar ( old one and New) in Shields that's where Hendrix player, Cream also did a gig there around the same time, some great bands in those days. Family were another that played the Bay (the very first band to play there in fact) , and they played later at bay and the Cellar regularly, they were brilliant, very free form in live performances, that they never seemed to capture on record. Country Joe and the Fish, and Three Dog Night played the Bay but I don't remember any other American Bands there , The Magic Band were booked but called it off, only to play years later for Mr Docherty at the City Hall when I got the surprise of my life in the Theatre Tavern before the show.
