No guarantees but they’ve got a cracking squad. Their first XI absolutely superb (on paper).

He didn't look comfortable, maybe a confidence thing??
Whilst I don't think he was great yesterday I don't think he was as bad as some are making out. A lot of the criticism was based around parts of his game that aren't his strengths, he's still a boy learning

He was the only striker making any kind of run behind the defence last season on the odd occasion he was was given a chance , none of our playmakers seemed to be able to spot that or make the pass however. Being in and out of the team doesn't help.

There is definitely a player in there but I'm not sure we play to his strengths, he could be brilliant playing in a front 2, off another striker which is unlikely here.

Each to their own but I don't think he was making good or clever runs..he was definitely working hard but there was very little quality to anything he done.
Really hope I'm wrong about him but I wouldn't be sad if we sold him.

Yeah I get that, to be honest I like the lad and see the potential but he wasn't the type of player we should have signed based on our style. That's certainly not Rusyns fault however.

He can play on the left but no chance as long as we have Clarke, or up front off another striker. I think he might go on loan

The thing that encouraged me about mayenda was he had efforts on goal during game. Sometimes that's the hardest part of being a striker and the finishing will come. Personally thought he was really unlucky with his chance, was a tremendous save.

Unlucky? Watch it again on 1 min 30 secs. He looked like a player that had just been pulled out of the crowd and given a chance to play for the first team. There was no natural ability at all in how he struck the ball, it was like watching a Sunday league striker getting put through on goal.

100%. Quite frustrating really. The Mayenda loan to Hibs was pointless when Burstow was still turning out here

My point is that only exclusively slagging off Mayenda is allowed, good save from the keeper either way.

i agree that Mayenda should’ve scored as I would’ve expected any striker to score but this mindset from a part of our fanbase to slag off the players is very bizarre. Jobe was called worse than ****e yesterday yet played his best game for us in months.

I thought he looked very tight yesterday never thought he really let himself go. Would keep him as I thought the rest of the team played better with a central striker rather than playing a false 9 like we did with Jobe for large chunks of last season.

Don’t think that was unlucky tbh he got it all wrong and as I say that’s the experience kicking in.

not going to slag the lad off though he’s only young and will learn

Its not slagging off, its giving an honest opinion about a player. Thats what this forums for, so people can share opinions. Just because you think a certain player is shyte it doesnt necessarily mean you are slagging them off, we're allowed to be honest.

Id live him to succeed but right now he needs to drop down a league or 2 below and develop into a better player.

    Harsh, no natural ability?

Yes he was desperate to use his left but he quickly got it on his left with the body shape, at pace and had it going in the corner. Yes a senior pro probably uses his right and it's 2-0 but it was by no means awful and he'll learn. This is not a justification to not a sign a senior striker tho.

Your opinion mate, personally like i said he showed zero natural ability and the way he shaped up and hit the ball was awkward and not how a professional footballer should be striking the ball.

I recall Hemir having a one on one v Southampton at home early part of last season, keeper made a decent save but Hemir shouldn’t have given him a chance …….very similar to mayenda yesterday.

mayenda worked hard but it’s clear to see we simply cannot have him as one of of our first choice strikers if we have any ambitions at all.

he is simply miles away from being ready.

He moved a lot. Made good runs. He should’ve scored yes

but the pick in his game for me is the ‘laziness’ I’ll call it when the ball is passed to him. He became a centre halves dream as the ball is passed into him he wasn’t stepping into the ball and instead was waiting for it to come to him to pin the defender, so he was getting stepped on a lot
