I see Szmodics scored last night for Blackburn starting the season like he finished last season. Surprised he’s still there tbh, but doubt he will be by the close of the window.
6 year deal, great for players and great for PSR. I didn’t watch much premier league football last season. He clearly had a breakthrough year, always a hard working player and whilst the fee is eye watering think he’ll fit well in the Spurs system, whether he is clinical enough for them is the big ?
That price was a release clause set in his contract, and he's well inside his contract at Bournemouth. I think it's what you'd expect for a player of his quality tbh. Only Haaland, Cole Palmer, and Isak outscored him in the league last season, and he scored as many as Ollie Watkins, outscoring Salah and Son whilst playing for a much weaker side. Proven PL quality, in the England frame, and Bournemouth's most important player. If he did all that for Saints, we'd all want at least £65m given what lesser players are all going for, let alone circa 20 goal a season strikers. Hasn't £50m been mentioned in relation to Charly? Anyone who thinks that's not a decent deal didn't watch Bournemouth enough last season. He was a match-winner for them - never getting him for less than that. Only possible question is he didn't really do it when in a similar spotlight at Liverpool.
I think the point is, for me at least, that he’s 26 and up until last season people were taking the piss out of Bournemouth having paid £20m or whatever for him in the first place. He was looking like one of those early promise but can’t do it at the top of adult football players. Question is whether last season was a break through season and he’s just a late bloomer or if it was an outlier. If it’s the later then Spurs have massively overpaid, if it’s the former then it’ll end up looking like a decent price (given the market).
Yes, but that's the case in any transfer I guess. No way of knowing - Bournemouth aren't going to say there's a bit of a chance he might not work out, have him for £30m. £65m imo reflects his performance in his first established season in the PL and his potential to step on and do it somewhere better (season before Bournemouth were just promoted, and Solanke was coming off scoring 29 goals in the Championship). A year before, Cole Palmer left City for £40m and wasn't even a first team player.
Yep, I too am surprised. I've seen suggested fees of anywhere between £6m and £20m, which is a pretty wide range, so it's difficult to know what to believe. But Blackburn aren't made of money, so I doubt they're in a position to obtain top-end price for him. Maybe though that is why he is still there at the moment; Blackburn holding out in the hope of getting that top-end price, but will be willing to come down before the end of the window if no-one matches that. My guess - and it is only a guess - is that they will end up selling him for around £10m to £12m, maybe with some add-ons thrown in. And if that was to be case, I'd be very happy if it was us paying it.
Was watching sky sports news yesterday for first time in ages and they mentioned O’Riley. Said Brighton and Chelsea interested didn’t even mention us
Think he could go to one of the top end Champ teams, don’t think a PL team will go in for him and if one do I really hope it isn’t us.
According to Turkish media we are after Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbache, they want £30m so highly doubt it
I'm really impressed by what West Ham have done this summer. If they do get either KWP or AWB, they could be set for a very good season. I'm not surprised though. I'm sure splashing the cash this summer would have been a requirement of Lopetegui when agreeing to take the job.
Was speaking to a Bournemouth fan (didn’t know they existed tbh) and he was very confident about the upcoming season, thinks they have an outside shot for Conference League qualification, said he’d be very surprised if they finished outside the top 10. This was before they sold Solanke so may have changed his outlook a bit, but if he is anything to go by they aren’t thinking about relegation at all
I'm sure every club has its share of optimists and pessimists with many inbetweeners hoping for the best but preparing for the wurst.
Rowe withdrawn from Norwich matchday squad due to not being in the right headspace. Rumours that Marseille have joined Leeds in expressing an interest. I know a few on here were keen-ish.
