We could probably get Tomori with a 35/40mil bid to Milan & nearly have enough left over for a player like Javi Guerra from Valencia who we've been linked with earlier in the window instead of giving Palace the egregious 60mil+ they want for Guehi.

Fairly. Read a transcript. According to that, he said 'hoping to add at least one player'. At least doesn't = at most/at best.

For what it's worth though, I'm with you in believing it'll likely be one permanent signing at best now... It's just not what he said.

 

To be fair Roles, I don’t think it’s us that are making anything public - there’s chatter on media but there’s no quotes from Newcastle and we can’t control what Palace might leak.

It’s a negotiation in a seller’s market, if I was Palace and I was a bit of a **** I’d also see what other interest I could pull in… I’d want a bidding war if I could get one.

for Newcastle we have to have an eye on every million due to PSR rules which it seems we are trying to stay within. Either Chelsea, Liverpool etc have much more wriggle room than we do, or they don’t care about the rules.

I ****ing hate the rules, but I know and approve of what they seek to achieve (if everyone played by them).

I do want Guéhi if we can, but if we don’t, we’ll have likely been beaten by PSR, not by our own slowness

Think it’s because we can’t get rid of players. If we can’t sell an Almiron or a Trippier or a Wilson then we can’t spend money otherwise we’ll fail PSR next June

 

Are the PSR rules not being scrapped from next season and being replaced with something more linked to commercial revenue and anchoring to bottom teams finances etc? Or is that still to be confirmed/approved?

 

It is but it makes no discernible difference to any team.

 

We seem to end every window two players shy of what we need. As we only really need two players, I suspect we’ll end up with none.
