Should just play O'Nien if it becomes necessary IMO. It's kinda similar to the situation in other positions really. Hume starts unless he's injured or suspended. We're looking for cover for right back which may ultimately amount to zero/negligible minutes. Pembele isn't gonna develop/rehabilitate with what we're offering him in the squad this season.
I think we will still see a couple of premier league loans added to the squad once those clubs decide on their squads……dare I say one a striker
The approach seems similar to Brighton's. Lots of 'project' players at various different stages. Maybe Pembele could have hit the ground running, but he ends up needing a different path. The pedigree is there - just a question of if he can retrieve it. If he does, he ends up being a bargain
Just playing devil's advocate but you could argue that's the reason to give him a long deal. He can spend a year out on loan and if he comes good you still have him locked in for a while.
Pembele hasn’t impressed me at all. I know he was coming back from a long term injury last season, but I was hoping to be more impressed with him this pre-season. He’s looked poor.
Maybe. Haven't seen it myself. Looks to be a competition winner anytime he crosses the ****e line. Can not teach defensive awareness. He has zero.
Replacing Pembele could be done by signing a centre back who is comfortable playing right back. We need a centre back and we need right back cover until Huggins is back if Pembele leaves, Seelt also showed that he can play right back pretty well.
I’d like to think that with a bit of squad trimming and more seemingly to come that they have incomings lined up…..just don’t feel confident I’m thinking we need to stop looking abroad at so many of these punts and get a bit more of a focus on what gave us a bit of success….players of any nationality that have a strong grounding in playing in UK football be that through academy pick ups (Ballard, Alese, Cirkin, Bellingham, Ekwah) players where there career has stalled (Clarke, Roberts) even league of Ireland has some gems you can pick up. These young lads who have grown up in other footballing countries are simply not ready to come in and make an immediate for a league like the championship and having too many of them in my eyes is a real issue. fair enough signing one of mayenda, rusyn, hemir Fair enough signing one of bennette, ba, lihadji I don’t think you can sign so many of them at once as development players as the squad suffers and actually it isn’t good for their development
Could we sign an out and out centre half and use onien as utility? Might not be a popular opinion but just a thought
I still maintain Pembele is top class potential. A 13 month loan may be just the job. Bigger concern for me is it leaves us unable to move Hume into CB unless we bring in another full back. Hume into CB remains a really strong option IMO.
it’s an option I think would be attractive to them…..they have 09 listed as a midfielder on safc.com squad list
