And more. This shows how dangerously wrong statements made by little more than spotty-faced kids in their Mom’s basement can be picked up by bad actors and spread around the world inciting violence

At the centre is Musk and X (nee Twitter). One of the first things Musk did when he bought Twitter for an hugely inflated price was to axe the large number of employees whose job it was to ensure dangerous content was removed from the platform. He’ll no doubt argue that was to allow what he calls free speech but also had the effect of drastically cutting costs to fend off criticism of him for overpaying for Twitter in the first place.

This isn’t the only example of Musk’s ownership of Twitter causing tremendous harm or even the most serious.

One of the first things he did was to allow back on individuals who’d been banned by the previous owners. One was the odious Naxi alias Tommy Robinson but also prominent anti-vaxxers. Children are dying now from diseases we thought we’d conquered decades ago because Musk lets those people encourage gullible parents not to have their kids vaccinated.

Don't see why Musk can't be charged with allowing his business to be used to insight riot. He owns it and it is his responsibility to police it and not allow illegal goings on. Alternatively shut the site down and ban it. If we did that I'm sure other Countries would follow suit. Hit him in his billions which is the only language these people understand.

Firstly of course X is incorporated in the USA and within that, he's moved its HQ from left-wing liberal California and moved it to rootin', tootin', shootin' Texas.

Secondly, he dresses it up as "free speech" even when it's factually inaccurate.

He is by the way suing Unilever and Mars amongst others for colluding to cease to advertising on X. How can you force anyone to advertise on your platform if they don't like it?

Have to say I have watched the news on the rioters and associates with some delight over the last couple of days. I have absolutely no sympathy with any of them and how long they get sentenced for. The longer the better in my book. Also noted the keyboard warriors are not immune to receiving a sentence also. I imagine one or two might be dissuaded from either joining in again or posting the wrong opinion/advice on a website.

There’s a lot in the paper today about Chelsea’s new manager wanting to reduce the size of the squad. He has no less than 43 players available to him which he wants to cut to “2 for each position plus a few youngsters”.

In a table, he has one player on a 9 year contract (Palmer), one on 8, 5 on 7 year contracts and 15 on 6.

This is the result of allowing clubs to write off transfer fees over the contract term for the purposes of FFP regulations.

What a nonsense that is. Clubs should be measured on having sustainable cash flow, not some accounting fiction.

Chelsea have been like this for years though and it is nothing new. They could field three full teams with subs. I thought they were in the doodoo when the Oily Ruskie was sent packing but apparently not. Football and financing is a joke and there is no point in having these rules about finances when little is done about it. Unless you are one of the smaller clubs of course and then you get points knocked off at will.

There are so many top players that are not getting anywhere near their 20 man match day squad.

We'll have Stirling and Chilwell for the season.....we don't mind doing them a favour.....just to help out of course.

This is weird beyond belief. Mike Lynch, founder of the Autonomy tech company, has spent years under threat of imprisonment in the USA for fraud when Hewlett Packard bought Autonomy in 2011.

It was alleged he'd engineered an over-valuation at HP's expense. I don't know if the Americans know any Latin, but as far as I'm concerned it's definitely a case of caveat emptor in any acquisition. If HP didn't do their due diligence properly, that's their problem. He should never have been extradited to the US.

He's only finally acquitted in June and now this:

Now if I was a conspiracy theorist........

According to the news this morning, Lynch’s No 2, who was also acquitted of fraud two months ago, was run over by a car and killed while out running last weekend.

    Curious and curiouser.

    19,000 this year.
    2,185 this month.
    500 this weekend.
    5,500 since Starmer became PM.

The number of migrants crossing the channel this year.

The new government are supposed to be beefing up the Border Forces.....which probably means they will be picking up migrants more efficiently to bring here.

How many more £millions do we have to give the French to patrol their sea border......what are we doing with the hundreds of rubber dinghies that we confiscate at Dover.....do we sell them back to the people smugglers.

Further to reports about Musk and Trump and X (nee Twitter)’s involvement in a the recent fascist riots, there’s now controversy about the arrest in France of Pavel Durov.

He’s the head of Telegram, an incryptwd messaging service. On the face of it, it’s not much more than the WhatsApp we know and love but it does have a rather shadier reputation from extremist politics to child pornography.

It seems Durov has links to Putin and that Telegram is not only a conduit for false information but is widely used by organised crime and the Russian military.

The reasons for his arrest are not yet clear but watch this space.

If you ever wanted an argument for the Monarchy, look no further than France.

In order to stop Marine Le Pen’s far right party winning the recent election, middle-of-the-road and leftist parties formed a pact to maximise the number of seats they could win. Le Pen was defeated and a government now has to be formed from the loose coalition that beat her.

As a result of the pact, the leftist NFP has most seats but President Macron is refusing to appoint their leader as Prime Minister.

That’s the sort of dirty dealing you get when your Head of State is an active player in the political process.
