Are we? Defo doing something right to keep the better, younger players at the club on improved contracts though mind.
Take Ballard as an example, do you consider him to be a top end Championship player? Or Browne? How do you get him signing a long term contract if the salary being offered isn't competitive?
Ballard definitely is, I agree. And players like Dan deserve to have regular contract “upgrades” due to performance at the club. But whenever it’s mentioned that our wage bill is quite low it’s always dismissed as there’s no concrete evidence of every players wage. Browne actually turned down PNE’s higher wage offer to come here iirc.
Bizarre how much money they’re spending on young players who’ll not even play for the first team this season. Throwing £20m on kids like it’s nothing
Looks like Liam Millar is joining Hull, good signing that. Would like to have seen us cash in on Clarke before his value drops and he would have been a good replacement.
https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...underland-fans-in-emotional-statement-4734032 Sunderland have confirmed the departure of academy graduate Elliot Embleton says he is proud to have played his part in Sunderland’s history but added that it was the right time to move on. Embleton has this morning brought an end to his 19-year association with the club by signing a two-year deal to join League One side Blackpool. Embleton looked unlikely to get regular minutes under Regis Le Bris on Wearside this season and has decided that the time is therefore right to move on.... “Sunderland has been my life since I joined at the age of six,” Embleton said. “Growing up I used to go to games at the Stadium of Light with my family and dream that one day I would be fortunate enough to play a first-team game. Words will never be able to describe that feeling when it happened, but not just that, to score in the Play-Off Final at Wembley is something I will never forget. I am proud to have played a small part in Sunderland’s history, but now is the right time to move on. I will forever be a Sunderland fan, and I look forward to coming to games as a supporter soon. To the many people behind the scenes who helped me along the way and to the fans, thank you.”
I’m sure it’s been explained before and it’s all probably about money and attitude However mason cotcher an under 17 England international centre forward moving on into the premiership {most likely no starts } Then we most likely go into the premiership to loan a usless centre forward to improve his progress We already have these player to progress ourselves ??????/
Club really not to blame for the departure of Cotcher. So many horror stories about the lad and his family. Would rather have no striker than play him.
17 year old very young to rely on though, he hasn’t even trained with a first team squad. Villa have the money to be able to just buy up talent like this then loan them out year after year because their wage barely makes a dent. Such is the state of football nowadays. Imagine a football pyramid where clubs couldn’t just harvest talent and these young lads played in the lower leagues and got to show off their talent whilst making the smaller clubs a tidy fee when they eventually got a move to a bigger club.
Is it just me or is the usual buzz for football starting just not there now. Usually, everyone is buzzing all over social media, the adverts are out etc, no matter what you think of the club it's usually exciting. Feels like the riots etc have really made us all blank it out, just feels like we are heading into another pre-season game
Interesting point this. I was thinking last night that I wonder if we'll be as ponderous with selling players as we seem to be with buying them. Obviously we can't dictate what other clubs offer. But it remains to be seen whether we hold on to players for too long, hoping for unrealistic offers that never come, and then have to sell them cut price later.
Wait until tomorrow night when I’ve lost £50 on championship teams I couldn’t give a **** about, that’s when football is really back
