I know it’s prob decided before fixtures are announced does seem odd that city are playing chelsea in pre season game 2 weeks before they play each other in opening game of the season.
Our squad is going to be very very full come Tuesday The final preseason friendl(ies) are going to tell an awful lot. Gk: alisson, kelleher, jaros, Davies, pitaluga Rb: trent, Bradley Lb: Robertson, tsimikas, Chambers, Beck, scanlon Rcb: gomez, quansah, konate, Williams, phillips Lcb: vvd, van den Berg Cm: macallister, Jones, gravenberch, Endo, morton, bajcetic, McConnell, nyoni 10: Szoboszlai, elliott Lw: gakpo, Diaz,.carvalho Rw: salah, doak, Gordon St: nunez, Jota Not even including. A few u18s etc. There will be a lot of sales and loans out of that lot even just to clear house if we are not pricing players out of the market as usual. Who starts each game is anyone's guess.
Have to laugh at Maresca saying that it’s the prem rules fault that means they have to sell academy players… nothing to do with the fact you as a club have spent 1bn in about 3 years then? wish reporters would actually push back on this bullshit. Not one person is forcing them to sell Gallagher. The only reason they need to is because they have brought 4/5 players under 20 who are no where near their first team (some of which can’t even more to their clubs for a year or two). If the academy player isn’t good enough for your club then fine move them along. But if one is good, why sell one to then just replace with another player who is no better just because from a financial point of view it works out better?
can't think of any other club who have been forcing out first team players just because they are academy players
Arsenal are not yet officially doing thst but they do seem quite disinterested in bring on their younger talent. There's a player in Smith Rowe that's every bit as good as Vieira but they bought vieria and have sold off smith Rowe as he got injured and had absolutely no interest in getting him.back up to speed properly. The thing about Chelsea is thst it is so egregious thst it makes everyone else look sensible. Arteta got martinelli, saka and smith Rowe he had nketiah to develop (and didnt) but if you look at what they've done in the cups they played virtual first teams in both cups last year Well now.maitland niles, smith Rowe and others have been sold off and their side does just look like another bought in squad. Time will tell if arteta has any interest in the likes of Ethan Nwaneri who is sensational at youth level.
Smith- Rowe was basically usurped by Odergaard and injuries and have no idea how / why you think Arsenal were disinterested in him regaining fitness .Both Martinelli and Saka have developed under Arteta
My reasoning is thry had absolutely zero need to buy Vieira but they did. I acknowledged saka and martinelli already, however martinelli is a signing who while developed after injury might be the next shown the door. Smith Rowe should be their odengaard back up and getting lots of gsme time at arsenal. He is now out but the very average Vieira is there. In the end their fans seem totally disinterested in these guys stepping up and leading the club amd would rather buy buy buy. Don't get me wrong we have usurped young local players with tje best we could get from Europe and now the UK in the underage levels and are raving about nyoni, nallo, morrison, doaks, Gordon etc. Jones is a local lad coming half decent. We have very few of our won coming through but we got quansah through now. Arsenal's way seems to be to buy yet another player just like Chelsea and value them, just not as extreme. We are likely to see morton forced out now which is a shame bit we will be keeping bajcetic to see if he can develop. 2 seasons playing full time hasn't convinced anyone at lfc morton is Perth a senior player squad berth but endo is worth one? Bit of a shame. Will the sale happen to bajcetic next? Who knows.
Endo apparently has said that he wants to stay and fight for a place. That's a good attitude to have. We have got a big squad with an embarrassment of riches in terms of young players coming through but we will need that big squad for the amount of games we have this season.
Maybe the fans are to blame with the clamour for signings. Bringing on our own used to be a source of great pride. Perhaps seeing our rich owners spend money has replaced it. I don't know; just asking. Also, arguably the standard of the Premiership is now very high. You can't hide sub-standard players regardless of where they are from. They get found out.
This thought has occurred to me frequently. It used to be that judicious signings were made to improve the squad and replace those getting past it - it now seems that fans are really disappointed if there aren't a number of significant signings every season. We all feel the excitement of seeing new players come in, wondering what they can do, but sometimes it seems more like the need for a sugar rush than a measured assessment of what is required.
I think social media has a lot to answer for in terms of impatience amongst 'fans'. It doesn't take long for a mad idea / opinion to gain traction. The fact that players have social media presence, attracts a lot of unwanted attention too.
Not adding to the fact that younger fans are impatient. Link it sinilar how the thought of having to wait a week for the next episode of a show is almost unheard of these days - of a show isn’t released all at once for someone to binge watch then not worth it. They demand immediately being satisfied rather than having to wait and be patient.
Yeah but he wont play will he? Reality is he can want it but he can have a second pay day off marseille and actually have a really nice time there too. Won't win anything but will play. Two signing on fees in two years? Let's see.
Sugar rush is a great description of this. Chelsea fans are genuine addicted to it now and players are utterly amazing the day they sign and trash within 2 months and due for replacing. Fernandez hasn't been used right, hasn't.been managed right and for me looked like he lost condition at Chelsea. They are calling him ****.
If Chelsea football club wasn't in London they'd have a harder job attracting players. I think a lot of players they sign are going for the money and the location. The way the club and some fans treat the players, you wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
Yrd they would but I think we over egg the London effect. London is not that amazing and you cant exactly.just enjoy thr night life or whatever as your club will hammer you. It's not like Madrid where they are looked after and.are out half the night every night at dinner like the locals.
