Isn't this a snipe? Acun himself said he's been more focussed on Fener so far this window than he expected he would have to be, he's accepted that transfer business has been slow as a result, he's said he's now stepping in to handle transfers personally, he's said we're now appointing a new Head of Recruitment in the coming days, he's said a lot that aligns with issues that a lot of us had with how the window has been handled. It was very good of him to say as much. Him acknowledging it doesn't mean that those who had issues were wrong or have been made to look silly, I'd rather think it's the opposite. Basically the only angle that has been made to look silly was the rumours that he was looking to sell the club, but that came from some well regarded members not typical 'bed wetters'.
I completely agree with your point regarding being on the fence, time will tell etc, but some of the stuff levelled at Acun and the club recently have been getting gradually more and more ridiculous and after today it all just seems like its been daft overkill. Constantly hearing that this side would get relegated as if we're not going to add to it... But the season starts on Saturday etc... It doesn't end on Saturday. It still seems people are too stubborn or too far gone to even accept that perhaps the situation isn't as dire as its been surmised to be. Well, not yet anyways.
So basically you ignored most of what Acun said today except on a few minor points where you have interpreted as evidence to back up your weeks of criticism. But of course you will comeback with agreeing on most of what Acun says but then double down on the minor points you see as victories. The apology to Alsop and the admittance hes been 20% less involved with City and 20% more involved with Febernache. But just to recap on the points he doesnt agree with you. Liam wasnt the main influence ofgetting players in, it was the recruitment team. The club is not been mismanaged. He doesnt believe we need a director of football. He doesnt believe we will lose all the August games. we are an attractive proposition for players.
**** it. I've been critical and I've been calmed down a bit today but for the life of me I can't stand it you're trying to make moral high ground post when most of the critics on here I've stepped back in the past 24 hours. Acun did himself say he's taken a more proactive role at Fener and in turn it has affected his own personal time (something we thought). He did also mention that he has his trusted team and a Head of Recruitment on the way to help out. He said he was shocked its taken as long as it has. Pretty much like everyone who has been reasonable in their criticisms has said. I'm still a bit annoyed we haven't quite got a starting XI for Saturday but it is what it is. If he does deliver a competitive squad as he's now hinted at then we will have to wait till the end of the season to see if the games missed have an impact on where we could have been. To his credit in this, he was upfront about it. He could have hidden behind PR fluff and said he's managing his time accordingly but he at least admitted he's expected his delegates to carry the water. To recap on the points you made He said Liam had an influence but not a total influence. He was actually quite appreciative of him. But said the team are keeping relationships like the ones they have with Villa etc. Club not being mismanaged. Of course he's going to say its not being mismanaged regardless of if it is or not. FWIW I dont think it is before you level it at me. They clearly had a plan of spending in Jan and either balancing it with promotion or player sales. Not how I would have done it but its not mismanagement per se. He said Tan and Beri Pardo make up the role of DoF. He can believe it if he wants. Time will tell obviously. Still doesn't take away we are a bit unprepared. He knows more on being attractive based on players he's speaking to I suppose. What is attractive about us remains for debate. Syd and I have had similar outlooks past weeks but from what I've read seem to be on the same mindset about what was said today. Ultimately however, he does still need to produce the results. I have more faith in them doing it than I did 24 hours ago give he's said he's going to be more hands on as deals get hot and heavy. He obviously wanted to help Fener get ready for Champions league qualification and then move on to us as the schedules allowed it. Hopefully with more manpower with a Head of Recruitment it helps negate that problem going forward. Especially if he keeps his promise about bringing in more owned players of quality and giving Tim some time to build.
The Maribor thing is strange. I can't see any confirmation of it being completed anywhere. Only a "letter of intent". Can't see Acun or Acun Medya listed as the owner or chairman of Maribor anywhere. He says he already bought it but is that in the same way that he announced on Turkish The Voice that he'd bought City, about 2 months before he actually did?
Eh? He said we have a Director of Football. He doesn't believe we're writing off the August games, just not going to be as strong as we could be in August (something I agreed with previously) When did I say Liam was the main influence in getting players? I said it would have been easier getting players in earlier if Liam was still in charge because we wouldn't have had to adjust our target list. I didn't ignore most of what Acun said, I actually listened to and liked almost everything he said. You seem to have a massive comprehension issue or just try to be contrarian for the sake of it. Even when I praised him for apologising to Allsop you took it as a criticism somehow.
I missed today but it seems that it was a really good Q&A. I'm hoping it's published on Tigers Plus Couple of bits that I think are worth talking about from the quotes I've seen. We do seem to learn quite slowly, there seems to be a realisation that relying on the 5 loanees to be key players isn't wise. I think that's stating the obvious to most and Boro did the same thing the year before and then had a more difficult year last season. I just wonder why simple lessons have to be learnt. The Jan overspend seems naive. Plenty of us said at the time that the league looked a closed shop in terms of the top 4 being miles ahead of the rest. It felt like a bit of a waste. I think we're crying out for a CEO who's a calming influence, probably in the Adam Pearson mould. Not him per say, but someone who's been there and done it. I think we can reduce this excitement and impatience that Acun has that leads to rash decisions. We need a proper DOF too, someone with domestic experience. I think going down the ex player route is sensible as Palace did with Freedman to great effect. Someone with an affinity to the club would be ideal but I'm not sure if that would be possible.
Unfortunately Acun brushed off the DOF question by saying we already had people filling those roles. Seemingly missing the implication in the question that what we currently have doesn't seem enough. A replacement for LD being imminent is good news though.
But then alluded to the club not working well enough without him, hence why he's back, so surely there's people not doing well enough in their current roles. However, there seems to be no plan to change that. A head of recruitment is needed but I thought it was Tan's job to get deals over the line and that's what we've struggled with this summer.
The fans amongst us would think that Acun organising a Q&A on the same day as his other team has a game in nearby France was sheer coincidence, the cynics amongst who listened to an hour of deflection about supposed incoming transfers, think he’s a bullshitter and can’t wait to do one. This is de ja vu, we've all seen it before, major sponsors dumping us, players leaving in droves, just days before a season starts with a new manger no new players all shades of Allam and Phelan. The local press fed a huge list of players on the watchlist for weeks, and the owner, who we know was very time limited before his Fenerbahce investment is getting stick from a large percentage of fans. Despite his continued statements he’s here forever, I for one think he’s closing the door on his way out.
'Supposed incoming transfers'... Answer me this one question, please... Do you honestly believe we're not looking to add to the squad?
You could have asked the exact same question before Acun's charm offensive and would have likely got a totally different response. Yet nothing's, quantifiably, changed.
McVities didn't see the value or need for the sponsorship. They have pretty much nailed the UK market for biscuits and their CEO & CMO didn't see the need to further increase their advertising in the UK, especially with a Championship club and not the main sponsorship. It was very much driven by 'Biscuit Man' as a favour for a friend but I think the CEO/CMO got their way after a season. I really wouldn't see it as anything other than that really.
Yes of course, however the names bandied about are to try and excite the fans, and as yet none have arrived
Not in the least, in fact, your posts generally make me smile. In a 'thank **** I didn't post that' sort of way.
