Sunderland Under-21s continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 victory against Hebburn Town. Graeme Murty's starting eleven included new signing Elias Lenz who recently made the switch from RB Liepzig. Jake Waters also made his first start since April 2023 after a long-term injury. The young Black Cats flew straight out the traps, taking the lead with less than two minutes on the clock. Ben Middlemas picking up the 'keepers clearance before firing home from 20 yards out. Just before the break, the hosts were level. Confusion in the box led to Michael Turner stabbing in the equaliser. Victory was confirmed early into the second-half, though, as Ben Crompton drove out of the defence before playing through Trey Ogunsuyi to apply the finishing touch. SAFC: Chibueze, Lavery, Bell, Crompton, Jenson Jones, Middlemas, Lenz (Mitchell 65), Harrison Jones, Tutierov, Ogunsuyi, Waters (Walsh 65) Unused subs: Richardson, Holcroft, Kindon, Jaydon Jones, Chungh
There were some more game updates from Hebburn's twitter. A few good crosses from Walsh We had a penalty turned down, won one shortly after but it was saved
Hopefully we can get down to Eppleton next season. Missed out this year but Walsh sounds an exciting prospect. Might be a wildcard for a bench appearance next season
