The police won't be defeated, it's not possible, for that to happen, total anarchy would prevail. The support available to them is immense and would swamp any number of rioters, they may get the odd bloody nose but they won't be beaten. I don't know how old you are but I remember the Broadwater Farm riot, where PC Keith Blakelock (from Sunderland) was murdered, the Pole Tax Riots, the Meadowell Riot and many more. They were all awful at the time they happened, but once the dust settled the communities returned to some form of normality.

He's absolutely right. The way forward is to talk. Anyone (and I mean anyone, all political views) who goes online and says that they hate a particular group of people because they don't have the same opinions as them, shares responsibility for the divisions in society that are driving this violence. Don't spread biased information. Don't repeat things that are not the verifiable truth. Listen to other people's opinions and you can find common ground. That's what we need and that's how we repair the divisions.

Where are you getting the £28k salary from? A PC, after 7 year’s service, earns around £18k more than that… I’d put a link to Police salaries on, but I don’t know how. Easily searchable though. The Police seem to be standing back and ‘taking it’, which as you say, must be demoralising. To lift Officer morale, an immediate return to a Police FORCE instead of a Police SERVICE is what is required here.
