In my opinion shouldn’t be an Olympic sport, but as long as McIlroy doesn’t get a medal, fine. French take 1,2,3 in the men’s BMX racing. They have been practicing on the course for the last ten years (none of them are kids). Fair enough, home advantage has to help. In the women’s the Brit girl has been totally dominant but such is the odd format that this doesn’t seem to give her any advantage in the final. I’ve probably missed something.* *ok seems she gets to pick her starting gate which gives her a big advantage. Here we go. Well she was smashed and was last, and an Aussie won! Totally mystifying. ****ing hell got my gloating in way too early. Aussie will smash me for this
Early days, we'll make up the ground in the cycling hopefully. We should win the women's 800 on the track and a 2 way shootout in men's 1500. Should be a few golds hidden away in other sports too !
He's got previous at that course, winning the French Open there and getting 4 points in the Ryder Cuo there. Going well but always feel there's a double bogey not far away with him. Schauffele bang there too, and just riding a high at the moment
Only reason you crims swim so well is to keep away from the crocs and sharks...wait til the dancing horses come out, then we'll see what happens
The only deserved response is …. Winners are grinners, losers can do what they like ….. Your honour, the defence rests.
Watching the gymnastics , and no ****er can nail a decent landing anymore. Biles in the vault wins gold even though jumping back 4 feet after landing ! In the 70' and 80's the landing in any apparatus was key to getting a good score and you'd lose alot of marks if you didn't land precisely. I haven't seen 1 gymnast from either sex, manage to land a perfect landing from any apparatus. To say Biles is the GOAT is a joke, if Korbut or Comeneci were around today they'd ****ing annihilate her !
Interesting that a few Northern Irish athletes have opted to represent Ireland in the Olympics. As is their right of course. One swimmer who won a gold had been rejected by the GB team….the bloke who just won the pommel competes for Ireland in the Olympics, and Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Games. I’m all for fluidity in national identity. you do know that these aren’t trans women, but women who for one tournament had questions against them? That tournament was officiated by Russia and both boxers had beaten Russian/Chinese opponents, who were subsequently awarded medals, before being disqualified. Neither were tested for either testosterone or XY chromosomes, but some other ‘specific’ but not disclosed test. This is much more complicated than meets the eye. Personally I would automatically ban trans women from women’s competition. But I wouldn’t expect female athletes to sacrifice their own chances and all that effort and training by boycotting events with trans women in them. Competing and using the platform to protest until it’s sorted.
More than a "few" Stan. 32 athletes out of an Ireland team of 133 come from the 6 Northern counties. A lot of the sports are all-island sports like hockey, swimming, rugby, boxing, golf, etc. Remember, one ex Ireland swimmer won a gold for Team GB in the swimming relay the other night too. Reunification is inevitable. It's only a question of when ALL athletes on this island have to represent this island. I'm sure the unionist community in NI might still want to represent GB but in terms of Olympics sports, a lot of the sports are all-island sports.
The landings are not as good as they were. My memory of gymnatics, driven by the commentary was that the landing was the most important thing, it didn't seem to matter what you did as a routine as long as you landed with a perfect stop. The complexity of routines have evolved dramatically though, the twists, turns and speeds of their actions are so much greater now that I guess the landings were always going to suffer. I think the scoring priority has changed in relation to this and focus is now more on the routine than the dismount. I still however judge an entire routine with 15 somorsaults, twists, back flips and handstands entirely on how close their legs are when they land.
Delighted for Fleetwood. He always seems to be the bridesmaid. One day, he'll win a biggie. He deserves to, a very consistent golfer.
Fantastic race by the American Faulkner in the women’s cycling road race, took the favourites to the cleaners in the last 3km. Huge dignity shown by Amanda Rutter, potentially denied a gold medal in shooting by a clear judging error. No hysterics or abuse (handy as she has a shotgun in her hand) after politely challenging accepted the call. Tennis players take note.
I like Fleetwood, and would have loved him winning, but at 33 with a total of 7 European tour wins (no PGA wins) I’m beginning to doubt that he has the minerals to win a Major. Two poor shots at the sharp end today cost him.
