How do you guys feel about our youngsters? Who do you think will make the first team and who won't?

Tough question really. Players like Vuckic and Abeid are very highly rated so you'd expect them to make the step up. Sammy Ameobi has the backing of the manager and appears to have exactly the right attitude to make himself a success.

This time last year I would have said Shane Ferguson was nailed on to make it and make it big, but he seems to have disappeared as of late.

I agree, I hope Fergie does make it though. Looked good at Stoke

Abied is easily the best young player at the club atm, followed by the afformentioned. The concern I have is as we are going in the right direction and playing well they wont get the chance to play unless we get into europe and have a good cup run.

This is why if we do finish in the top 7 and europe then its a great opportunity to breed some young uns in!

I hope Abeid, Vuckic, Fergie and Sammy can be at the level of someone like Guthrie (in terms of appearances) towards the end of the season

That would be good, whether that be for us, or on loan in the Championship, they need games. You never know really how people are going to develop though. 2 of our brightest prospects in the last 2 years were Airey and Kadar, who both now seem to be fighting for their lives at the club.

Adam Campbell looks decent as well but won't make it for a few years yet

    Remie Street will make it!

  9. I don't think Ferguson will make it here. For some reason the manager seems clear that I he rates Ferguson as a LB, but I doubt he'll get a game in that position. And there are other ahead of him now for the LW position.

Perhaps he should be sent out on loan.

James Tavernier - reckon he has a good chance, certainly has all the attributes and has shone whilst on loan at Gateshead (last season) and Carlisle (earlier this season) and now Sheff Wed.

Remi Streete - highly thought of and has shone at reserve level this season

Jeff Henderson - been out on loan a bit and impressed

Tamas Kadar - certainly talented but struggles with nerves, apparently he is a wreck before some games

Adam Campbell - pacy, prolific striker. Won some award last year, many previous winners are now top top players (eg Torres & Tevez)

Abeid and Vuckic are the two most promising, not counting Sameobi who has already made the first team. Abeid in particular......wow, I'm sure he will be a fantastic player.

BTW apparently there's a big 50/50 split amongst the coaching staff over Fergie, lots of doubts lingering over him, mostly that he's injury prone I reckon (I swear he's made of glass)

Vuckic and Abeid are close to the first team now
as for the others i think there is a few who could make it whether they do is another matter i'd say Remi Streete,Adam Campbell,Brad Inman,Jeff Henderson,Yven Moyo,Michael Richardson,JJ Hooper,Alex Baird,Jak Alnwick,Dan Taylor,Esteban Lopez,Ole Soderberg,Patrick Nzuzi and Jóan Símun Edmundsson all have a good chance to but whether they do time will tell ...exciting though :)

highlighted the ones who probably have the best chance.

@ Le Beatski, Mark Douglas said it a while back on twitter (@MsiDouglas) pretty sure its also in one of his articles for the Journal and/or the Sunday Sun. Also, Lee Ryder said it on one of his webchats on the Chron website.

There are quite a few I think will make it with us. However it stands to reason that some of the ones I think will, may very well not. Just the nature of youth development. I think regardless a large number will make a living from the game.

Kadar (unless something is amiss), Ferguson, Abeid, Sameobi, Vuckic, Tavenier all look good enough to be at least squad players at this level at some stage.

Tavernier - I've got a Carlisle supporting mate who said he did well there.

Vuckic - I really rate this guy. Was actually one of our most promising players in pre-season. Hopefully he'll get a few more appearances in the FA Cup or on loan in the Championship. Personally I think he would shine in the Championship.

Abeid - Still haven't seen this guy play, but I've heard some good stuff.

Ferguson - Looks a very good technical player but desperately needs to bulk up.

Sammy - Obviously Pardew rates him higher than anyone else. Is very raw, but has a lot of pace and exactly the right attitude.

Kadar - Looked promising but doesn't seem to have a future with us anymore. Whether that is because he isn't good enough or because these stories about nerves are true I don't know.

Ranger - Lots of ability but will never make it unless he changes his ways. And I somehow doubt he will.

Another factor is personality. There will be youngsters who are probably good enough to be in the matchday squad, picking up a sub appearance here and there but who would rather play regular football at a lower level, which is fair enough.

I feel this season our academy is very important, we have a strong starting 11 but beyond that we struggle a little depth. Should we hit a period of injuries, I think that's when we'll see the likes of Fergie, Vuckic and Abeid. From a team spirit point of view that may be the way to go, about 15 'superstars' and the rest mainly youth as backup, to avoid having high-paid players not even making the bench.
