A holding midfielder and left back ain't gonna change the fact we can't create **** all up front ! We need to be going all out to get in attacking options

Nope, keeper maybe , but the younguns and Paal were turd. Celar didn't look fit enough. Reminded me of watching Frey last season, we need alot of help !

I thought both Nardi and Dunne were pretty good. Defensively we weren't bad but apart from occasional threat from Anderson and Smith we created little. Cellar did little, missed a chance but was offside anyway, and didn't look fit or sharp. Frey not much better. We really need a defensive midfield back up or better for Colback who had a poor game, Varane maybe, a replacement for Willock and optimistically back-up for Chair, a pacy wide man, a LB and on today's showing as ever a striker.

Were you there? I thought you were in Walton on the Naze (does it have pubs? Frinton didn’t back in the sixties/early seventies when my family used to go there when both grandmothers lived (separately) in Clacton (before it became a white ghetto).

A non QPR mate went to the game today. Said we were ok but ‘gummy’ (ie toothless) up front.

I was at the match. As I said earlier in this thread, I was very impressed by Brighton, both as individuals and as a team: the best I have seen at HQ for some considerable time. I thought we put in a good defensive display to keep the final score to 0-1. In particular, it was a very one-sided first half and we created almost nothing for the whole game. Under enormous pressure, there was lots of effort, blocks and tackles from our boys and, overall, I wouldn't criticise any of them. In real time, I thought the penalty was a fair call and taken brilliantly by Danny Welbeck.

Stand out performer was probably Nardi who looked very comfortable with the ball, made some good passes and several excellent saves. I'll be pleased if he keeps playing at this level for the rest of the season: it was such a relief after Begovic! I also thought Sam Field looked good, especially in the first half. Jimmy Dunne did not look out of place against Premier League opposition either. JCS was a bit too casual on the ball a couple of times and got caught in possession, which lead, on one occasion, to the penalty. However, he also pulled off an amazing goal-line clearance.

Of course, everyone wants to know about Celar: well, he saw very little of the ball. He ran a couple of channels which could have lead to something and he missed one such chance but was offside anyway. To me, he looked robust and a little quicker than either Dykes or Frey (faint praise) and, based on very little evidence, I think he's got more idea where he should run, and where he should be, than either of those two. Our youngsters all had promising moments but they're not going to conquer the world, or the Championship, just yet.

    I enjoyed the match.

Yep, we're still averaging 0 goals a game, so consistent at least !

No, I wasn't there, my post was a bit of sarcasm aimed at our Lord and Saviour who had made that exact comment. Four games, no goals, hmm.

Yeah, we're in Walton. It's great.

I watched the live stream on the Brighton website. Your summary is spot on, although it was never a penalty, Colback barely touched the Brighton player. Only a friendly so no damage done, if that had been a competitive match I would have been a tad pissed off.
We looked toothless up top but this was a very good Premier league side.
We'll see what happens next week against the Baggies.

I thought that we did OK!
Only Colback and Andersen looked a bit below par.
Their press was better than enything that a Champ team could possibly muster.
    Watch out WBA!!!!

Brightons press was good and it is well above Championship level, however there was still very little to offer in their half and no team will be fearing our attack.

Our seasons general pattern includes a poor start, change of manager, somehow scramble over the line, flatter to deceive in last 2 games, hope for next year.
Unless our frontline improves I think that is the best I can see for this year.

I genuinely hope to be proved wrong & want Cif to do well. The talk of a keeper who can play football though says to me lots more back passes and play around our goal.

Didn't see any of yesterday's game but our weaknesses are pretty obvious to see. We just don't create chances going forwards, either through lack of creativity or through final decision making. Chair is a massive miss but we can't just base our season around him, we need other options to create that bit of magic otherwise it doesn't matter who we have up top.
