It might bother him but if the rumours me and Howden have heard have any truth in them, he’s wanted out for over a month now.
Are the bids for Hughes etc just simply gimmicks then? Or are they still committed at this stage to making us at least competitive for a future sale?
I have no idea. The last bit of inside info I heard regarding transfers was from my mate who still works at the club and that was in April about Greaves going to West Ham. When that didn’t happen, my mate later said Lopetegui apparently vetoed it when he replaced Moyes as he had his own targets (Kilman being one).
Maybe but I imagine they’ve frustrated him since he bought the club and he always knew FFP would be something he’d have to adhere to. I think he’s more annoyed we didn’t get play-offs last season. I hope he’s fine with me saying this but Howden said Acun was furious with Rosenior about not getting play-offs after the winter transfer window.
Just as my lad is starting to take an interest in City as well. Cmon Acun ya big ****. Finish the job and invest in the squad.
Wow my tongue in cheek prediction or summary was right then - god I’m so naive - now I am confused , concerned and thoroughly pissed off .
I still don't get this because there seems (with fans and Acun) a tendency to think play offs = promotion. Even if we'd made play offs, we weren't winning them. So whether we made or missed them, last season was a positive step, not a **** up.
Oh, I agree. I said as much when I messaged Howden last night. We would’ve been the least likely of the four to win the play-offs anyway. There was no guarantee we would’ve been promoted.
If this is the case, then being honest I’d quite like him to sell. We’ve all debated to death whether Rosenior should have got the playoffs or not, and I have no interest in bringing it up again - but Acun should be level-headed enough to realise that sometimes - even with the best squad - you aren’t guaranteed success. The Jan transfer window was good - but it wasn’t outstanding, We brought in some good attackers but not all of them clicked and we were unlucky with our two best forward players getting injuries. A better transfer window would have seen more balanced investment in midfield. If he’s ready to chuck his toys out the pram because things didn’t go to plan over the course of 6 months then he’s not the owner a club like us needs in the long term. If it’s not the case, I’d like to see him continue, as long as he’s a bit more realistic and less hot headed.
As with anything there's so many caveats. If you want instant success, why bring in a rookie gaffer? They don't really admit it, but the money wasted in Summer 22 has really hurt us. We managed to spend the KLP money and all our FFP headroom and end up with a pretty average squad.
This is the most annoying thing. We should have built for this season. But if you look at the Turkish league they very much live for the moment, especially with the signings they make, a mindset Acun seems to follow.
Just look at the announcement for Mourinho becoming Fenerbahçe’s new manager. It’s all a big spectacle.
Hope for me is he’s taking the back bench whilst we build gradually. Whilst the on pitch stuff hasn’t been good, he’s got the new generation of fans back watching, cheap tickets etc. just needed balance earlier, on the right lines with the signings made so far just need to do enough to stay up
I hope they get knocked out of the Champions League early and finish fourth in the league behind Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor for the ****s and giggles.
