Personally I'm pleased he wasn't paid in jail. If any normal person had gone inside they would have more than likely lost their job, so he should count himself very lucky.

My thoughts exactly, most people would have been sacked.

We've forked out on players who didn't turn up on the pitch.

Why should he get paid when he wasn't even in Newcastle!!!!

  8. I'm getting sick of this Joey Barton thing.

I personally believe he quit because he saw that Cabaye was a better player than him. It's no coincidence that just days after Joey had the row with the manager and the coaches about Cabaye replacing him on set piece duty, that he left.

He obviously knew that he might not get the games anymore and he'd be outshone by Cabaye.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I read in more place than one that JB did not take kindly to Cabaye's influence.

But Barton didn't quit NUFC. The board did not offer him a new contract and alerted clubs that he was available for free.
I am sick and tired of hearing **** from Barton. He is no longer a Newcastle player and should be devoting 100% of his time to QPR as they pay him a huge amount of money each week and will do so for the next 4 years.

He was offered an improved contract!!! The guy is an idiot - needs to learn that his opinion isn't always appreciated.

He shouldn't have been paid while he was in jail. Regardless how any of us feel or don't feel about his departure or any treatment of him by the board in the lead up to it, why would we pay someone a wage when they are unable to do their job because of something stupid they did? He was lucky to have a club to come back to in my book. The only thing I learnt from Barton in that recent interview is a possible reason for Hughton's departure. To be fair it was probably pretty accurate but there is no way of knowing.

Absolutely, rather than moaning that he wasn't paid while in there he should be ****ing grateful he was allowed to remain on a Fat Sam big Premier League salary when he got out, because in personal and footballing terms at the time no one else would have offered him close to that had Ashley terminated his contract.

I think this a laughable reason to think a footballer would leave a club to be honest. Particularly when said player has an extremely high opinion of his own talent!

I find it funny the Telegraph's headline of "Newcastle Forced Me Out Over Pay"

Didn't he or his agent say "Joey is prepared to take a pay cut to stay at Newcastle"?? Also he was offered a contract extension and then mouthed off about the club still paying his wages, so the contract was retracted and he was put out on a free.

Good riddance the smug 50's throw back.

Wish he would ****in move on cause we have.

    Club with ambition eh Joey!!!!

He also sums up something we kinda knew about player power, saying he and the others that left was in the bonus committee I've never agreed with bonuses for footballers, if your prem weekly wage isn't enough then you are just a greedy *insert expletive* now those money grabbers are gone we are better financially, on the pitch and in my eyes a lot happier in the dressing room, good riddance to all of them, except hughton
