Really enjoyed that, loving the pressing - so aggressive and consistent throughout! We also showed quality in possession, wanted to get players forward and we looked a threat Didnt think anyone played bad today, thought the subs all played their part Roberts my motm, thought he looked like the player of a couple of seasons a go today We all know what we need in the transfer market but performances like today make me excited for the season I know its only preseason but we look a totally different team to the one that limped through most of last season
Good game really encouraged still think we need a bit more quality and obviously a centre forward. But really like how we set up and the energy. At last we are hunting in packs and playing like a team It’s a high stakes press played on the edge so need to cut out mistakes but think we are in for some long overdue entertainment this season
I really struggle with him. He’s clearly got a high ceiling but I struggle with what he adds to us. Selling him with a good sell on fee to protect us for his future growth is definitely my preferred option
Really encouraged by that and by pre season in general. Clear style of play and clear individual roles. We actually look like a team again with a competent head coach in charge. Need a striker, could be the difference between 12th and 6th. Mayenda and Rusyn both did positive things today but we need someone else.
This high pressing is going to cause lots of teams problems this year. Good performance especially second half and confidence should be high for next week.
Agreed, looked more of a system and less reliant on Clarke. Hopefully get what we need in the next month
Great game against a better team. We can walk away with our heads held high. Cannot wait for the start of the new season... Hhhaaa'wwwwaaaaayyyyyy the lads
Like others have mentioned, really enjoyed that game. We played some really decent football at times - you can see how Le Bris wants them to play. Pressing high up to good effect will disrupt teams this season. Get 2 or 3 quality players in and we'll have a good season I reckon
Very impressed with that and the new playstyle. The high press is great, does it need to be tweaked against better passing teams, yes but we were very impressive against a top Ligue 1 side. Get a CF in, swap Jobe for Rigg or AA and we could have an exciting season.
Well, after that I can say that I am really looking forward to my trip down to Cardiff next week, with hopefully a new striker in the squad
Just looking at flights now mate Marseille are big, strong, quick and confident ... ... we came back twice which always gives a team confidence.
been a good pre-season this i think, plenty of time out for the lads and, from what i saw, improvement in the playing plan seen from the first game to this one. browne is a good addition, his experience gives him that time to think and make the right choices, like that clarke is being a little 'quiet' as i thought too much was thrown at him last season as if they had no clue and wanted him to put it right. onien defended well today, roberts getting back to his old self...need to remember this is a new style from the new manager and it might take a couple of 'proper' games to pull it all together but so far it looks good, not sure if they had a full strong squad out but they gave us a good test. hopefully get the striker(s) sorted this week, feel the club might hold onto any leavers until they do any incomings, sell a couple and teams tend to think we have plenty to spend and prices go up.
Great to see people actually enjoying the football again. Early days for RLB and there will be some miss haps along the way playing this high energy pressing style but this is exactly what we needed when TM left. Just need the recruitment team to keep upping the quality to fit the shape. Real shame we havent got a strong centre forward up and running for the start of the season.
The first 20 mins of 2nd half was fantastic, absolutely love that press. get a big strong striker and we are away imo
Playing the ball across a back four, and having 70% possession at home, might scrape 1-0 wins ... ... but ffs it kills the SOL atmosphere. I'd rather just fail in the play-offs, scoring a hatful, than grind our way up like some clubs do tbh.
Youngest son and myself are going to watch Durham play cricket at Gosforth on the Friday then driving straight down to stay over at Tewkesbury on the Friday night. Only about an hour and a half from there.
Pretty much the perfect friendly to finish on taking us into the season with reason to be optimistic. The press and energy levels where you'd want them, key players putting in performances and the toughness to come back twice against a good side.
