Yaser Asprilla is joining Rennes. This is not a rumour. He is supposed to have said his goodbyes to his teammates yesterday and I have seen photos of him arriving in Rennes (where he will have a medical) today. The fee is approximately £25 million according to some sources, but Louorns (who has contacts inside the club) reports that the total fee (including add-ons) is rumoured to be £27m with Mogi Bayat also being involved.

I am not confident that much - if any - of that money will be reinvested in strengthening the squad.

Asprilla and his agent have not yet reached any final agreement with Rennes. I wonder whether another club might be trying to gazump Rennes. Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with Asprilla. The problem is that there will not be sufficient remaining time to reinvest any money in strengthening the squad (even should Gino Pozzo want to) if Asprilla leaves late in the transfer window.

It has been reported that the deal for Asprilla to sign for Rennes broke down (after Watford had agreed terms) because Jonathan Herreira (Asprilla's agent) wanted more than 10% commission and French rules do not allow that. It would be possible if he signs for an English club such as Leicester. Surely Asprilla's agent can not be putting his own interests before those of his client?
