I might have the wrong slant on things here, but of the 29 races on offer today, only the listed event at Kempton has a decent purse, 30,000 pounds. There is only one other race with more that 5,000. On the other hand, the card from Canada's Woodbine has bags full of money to give away.

    In pounds.

    Claimer: 28,901.
    Claimer: 26,901.
    Maiden: 37,200.
    Claimer: 51,400.
    Claimer: 24,000.
    Claimer: 47,401.
    Claimer: 18,800.
    Stakes: 125,000.
    Claimer: 22,001.

There is a two miler at Catterick worth just 2,000. Maybe it's time to tear up the rules and start again.

    Morning all,

On the morning after the grim reapers monolog I give you this food for thought

A public sector worker is resigned to no pay rise this year whilst those who are claiming benefits are getting inflationary rises to their packages. A public sector worker then will get 1% maximum per annum after this freeze period.

If only I could get myself sacked, I could spend all day down at the bookies <laugh>

Right, nothing for me today. Not even a strike.

    Morning,

    Just one again for me

    Uttoxeter 13:40 "Be True"

Yard in form, down in trip and jockey/trainer have a good combo strike rate so worth a few bucks.

Apart from three Appraise selections might have a tickle a Laaheb 2/1 Kempton. Thought the pace for him last time was too quick early and that contributed to knocking the edge of his kick for home and weakening last furlong. More sedate pace this evening should see him utilise his superior speed in the closing stages to good effect.

Morning chaps just copied these from my blog so ignore points and all that crap lol :)

    12.40 Uttoxeter - 3pts win OPEN HEARTED - backed at 5/4 (BOG)

A big field for a maiden hurdle but it would be disappointing if this didn't develop in to a battle between the two at the head of the market (Open Hearted and Poole Master). The latter returns after a 350 day absence and may well need the outing. For this reason I will stick with the favourite Open Hearted who looks a potentially exciting recruit to hurdles making the switch following just the one start in a bumper at Ludlow which he won in impressive fashion. This trainer/jockey combination have a good strike rate when teaming up at Uttoxeter, and according to the ATR write up Open Hearted has schooled very well in preparation for his hurdling debut today.

    2.10 Uttoxeter - 1pt win BALERINA - Backed at 14/1 (BOG)

This is more of a speculative selection but I am interested in Balerina today . She certainly has stacks of ability, and whilst she hasn't shown much at all on her two latest outings she is still only a 4yo filly and I am hopeful that if she puts it all in she could run a massive race here. She was a listed winner on the flat in France and has also won twice over hurdles for current connections. Her jockey today Peter Hatton is 1/1 on this filly and if she can put behind a couple of moody displays she may well run a bigger race than her odds suggest

    1.20 Hereford - 2pts win KUMBESHWAR - Backed at 15-8 (BOG)

A nice novice chase here that should be between the current favourite Escort'Men and chasing newcomer Kumbeshwar. The Paul Nicholls trained Escort'Men is certainly a talented horse but he has been racing way too keenly lately and his jumping of the larger obstacles has also failed to impress me. He was beaten by Balzaccio on his fencing debut finding nothing for pressure and then unseated Ruby Walsh at Kempton on his second and latest start over fences. I would be hopeful that if this develops in to a battle Kumbeshwar will be the one to win, he has a good attitude and finds plenty for pressure. Whilst he has been a little bit disappointing over hurdles in two starts so far this season the switch to the fences has a good chance of getting him back to form and for me he is the one to beat here.

    Hello lads.

Us poor old private sector chaps still toiling away.Think I'll knock off a little early in sympathy mind you.

Some very decent racing today at Hereford, not least the 1.50 which features Gullinbursti and a PN point to point winning rules newcomer, not to mention the solid Grand Vision.

Gullinbursti won a big field Irish bumper from Just For Joe who has boosted the form with two subsequent wins and a second in a hot little race at Galway. On his first start here he was impressive when winning a competitive maiden hurdle at Exeter from a couple of well touted rivals.

PN supplies the principal opposition today with the well regarded Final Gift. The yard have a good handle on the form and this one receives a handy 7lb's from the penalised Gullanbursti. However,Gullinbursti will have improved from his hurdles debut and can take this en route to better things.

    2/1 is decent value.

The 3.00 at Catterick is a cracking little novice chase with Flinty Bay a worthy favourite after tipping up with the race in the bag LTO.Our Mick also brings some decent form to the table.

However,my suggestion is Basford Bob e.w.Sam Thomas goes to Catterick for this ride alone and the horse has very little to find on ratings to be competitve.A reproduction of his second to Highland Chieftan or his win at Kempton last year over hurdles would put him in with a great shout.

The downside is his poor jumping and tendency to hang left handed, the orientation of the track today should help negate this weakness.

These flaws mean 7/1 is available currently and is worth a moderate e.w bet.

    GL all.

Basford Bob falls at the second after been backed into 4's:emoticon-0184-tmi:<laugh>...

Prince of King 12.50 at Hereford, 5/1 looks about fair if he can repeat his performance last time.

Afternoon, all. 4 meetings today but whilst we have quantity in the main, people, we do not have quality. However, I'll nominate one that might have a bit of eminence about him:

Final Gift (1.50 Hereford) - this one did very well in the Irish pointing field last term because after running promisingly to finish 2nd on his debut he then ran out a comfortable winner on his only other start. Those runs hinted at him being useful and Final Gift has since changed hands and is now under the care of Mr Nicholls. Given his pointing background long-term this son of Old Vic will be a chaser but in the mean time can have a productive spell over hurdles starting with this race today.

Good luck to all who wager today.
