That’s the trouble with attention seekers like Farage. He states simple solutions that win over people who can’t think with depth and complexity when in reality it’s not simple and often not possible. I think we should put the EDL on flimsy dinghies and sail them round the coast on patrol in all conditions with sharp objects.
People, including Farage himself, keep saying only he has the answer ... ... but ask anyone what that answer is and no one actually knows. It's absolute madness.
Farage will never have to deliver on anything, hopefully. He’ll promise that he has the magic bullet but would inevitably be found wanting if asked to actually do something about any situation. Populism always flounders when it meets reality. Just a shame that our current society tends towards heat and light rather than actual substance.
Farage is a product of the times, not some wizard manifesting something. In fact I think he's soft as shïte, he'd buckle if he needed to do something more than debate stats on immigration or something, like actually boot people out.
In Asylum housing they get £50 a week each and a roof over their head. Free health care, free prescriptions, free dental care, free eye tests, free glasses if needed. In one swoop stopping all that would be a big deterrent but we would have the human rights lawyers prowling ready to line their pockets. What a mess this country is in, my poor mam god bless her worked her entire life and only enjoyed 7 years of retirement, all that money she paid into the system she never really benefitted from. I resent the fact it is given to young, fit and able men who pretend to be fleeing persecution. Economic migrants are a plague and it needs to stop.
The clue is in the words "economic migrants". The economy can't cope...., the infrastructure, the schools, the housing, the health service, the labour market. Basically everything because there are too many people in Britain. And that is without mentioning that these people have no desire to "integrate" into society. It has to stop as soon as is possible and by whatever means is possible. I am a "socialist" by the way.
Just watched Starmers speech, he’s just made his 1st massive mistake. Alienating a lot of the population with The Far Right tag and pledging to protect the Muslim community, a few hundred thugs don’t represent me or millions of others. All communities need protecting, including the white communities
There is too much and we have to secure our borders, but integration is a two way street and being welcomed not harangued for having a celebration on a public beach for example may help matters. We all have responsibility for our bit, including words we write online, equally more effort could be made by some. Most do integrate though and want to, not being able to work doesn’t support this mind as it tends to happen in places of work and schools.
Economic migrants are absolutely essential to the economy and net contributors. No one seriously disagrees on this For the last 15 years we’ve failed to address our own industry shortages, especially in social care and health which has contributed to an over reliance on economic migrants. There are some issues of integration but they’re largely problems of our own making by radically reducing the supply of labour available to fill our gaps whilst appropriately shifting our own training and education to enable us to reduce the need for economic migrants. we’ve created a system reliant on foreign Labour that would collapse our services if they weren’t there whilst pretending, from government, that we want or even can limit numbers without disastrous impacts on health, social care and agriculture in particular as well as the overall economy. “ illegal” immigration is a separate issue but is conflated by people that can’t accept the economic need for migrants. We created, very deliberately, a hostile environment that is probably contributing to the integration difficulties and makes radicalisation much more likely. Going back to fair, timely assessment of claims and appropriate legal routes to asylum is essential to even begin to deal with the situation. More humanity, less “ othering” and demonisation.
Paying young Britons to train as nurses would be a start, instead of expecting (mainly) young women to saddle themselves with £54k debt after training. This puts a lot off the job so we end up "importing" people from around the world instead.
I can't remeber how many years back, but we did set up DWP offices in France to correctly vet asylum seekers from the likes of Kosovo. The problem was that those who failed to qualify, still chose to use illegal ways to get to the UK through hiding in container lorries, if you remember. These people failled to proove who they were and what their personal histories were.....many of these people were found to be wanted criminals within their own countries. This system failed because the French weren't much help in the end. And you must remember, we still don't know who these illegal imigrants are, or their personal histories. They are not fleeing persecution if they have travelled through a dozen safe Countries. They have broke International Law and UK law for their premeditated actions.....employing other criminal People Smugglers. In The House of Commons debates, they admit openly that these illegal imigrants are in fact criminals themselves because of their illegal actions. These are not my words, it's from those who are simply trying to prevent these criminals from entering th UK without being vetted beforehand. Did you know that some of these illegal immigrants actually disappear into our underworld only hours after landing here? How the hell are we supposed to protect or kids and wives? I have absolutely no idea why you are objecting against our own health and safety, and security laws mate....
"These people". Dear God. Certainly is a two way street. I know, or have known, a lot of Muslims- as well as living in a predominantly Muslim area for several years, I have an aunt who married a Muslim, and another uncle who lived in a Muslim country for several years, my folks have a few Muslim friends that they met through work. People go on like they're one homogeneous group. They're as diverse as any other group of people. Integration is not a simple thing. Even with the intention to do so, it can be complex for people. People can, and do, feel pulled in different directions. Jesus, I haven't got the time to explain my experiences in relation to this and what a complicated subject it is. Its not as simple as "bloody foreigners don't want to integrate" but it should also be the case that people should be expected to make an effort to do so.
Terrible idea. What about all the other necessary careers who need a degree? There is already a preferential NHS Bursary available you dont see elsewhere. Even if it were implemented I would want them on the hook to pay full fees if they left the profession at any time in their first 10 years. This sort of thing is not appropriate. Instead of a cheap education, give them a better career. Money, development opps etc. Then encourage the public to respect them at all times. Had to take my dad back into hospital today. Saw two families giving nurses a hard time about their loved ones treatment. I know it is hard, but show some love ffs. I had a chat with one younger lad, told him it wasnt easy for anyone and asked him to put himself in the nurses shoes. He was as good as gold and calmed his family down and apologised to the nurse.
Wish I could give the first response 2 likes mate. We have such a brilliant history, as Brits, of integrating ourselves... I swear people have zero clue about the irony of their posts. Wanting to integrate, and being encouraged to integrate, are so at odds in our country at the moment it is frightening.
I agree and that also goes both ways. Those who find English easy general integrate much better and those people are often working in public places, sometimes not women. Some aren’t allowed to work and are placed in hostels. Effectively they become a friendship group. If we want to integrate people we need to make the system encourage it as well as the people.
This is a subject that is quite close to my heart. I'm restraining myself from going on a rant about it because I don't want to either bore people or say too much. But, I was brought up with lots of foreign (from all over the world) people around- friends of my parents and even of my grandparents (working class people from Sunderland) so I was always interested in, and taught to respect, other people's countries and cultures. I was also brought up to be proud of being British/English and my Scots, Irish, and Welsh ancestry. It never occurred to me dislike someone because they weren't of the same background as me and I assumed foreign people I knew were as proud of their country/culture as me, and had every right to be. I can't understand when people aren't interested in or don't understand other cultures. It angers me when the far right hijack Britishness and turn it into something its not. It also angers me when the left buy into the far right's nonsense and imply that I'm wrong for being proud of being British. @FellTop - you mentioned respect in an earlier post. In my opinion, there is a lack of respect in society and that is a greater cause of the current problems the country faces than immigration is.
