Man we are really giving Labour a lot of **** for the state of the economy after three weeks, imagine if the Tories were held to the same standard for five minutes.

    I said IF.

I already acknowledged they wouldn't be raising income tax in the October budget. But thinking ahead to further budgets. If they're going to raise certain taxes in October then why wouldn't they raise other taxes in further budgets?

I haven't got a crystal ball. They not raise income tax down the line. But it certainly can't be ruled out. I was simply reacting to comments the Chancellor made and being rather sceptical. I'm not a Labour voter. I don't like a lot of their policies so people can jump on my views all they like, they're not going to change.

    Time to proscribe the EDL?

Hooliganism isn’t free speech and they don’t stand for anything else.

So to clarify, you earn less than the national average wage and you're annoyed at the prospect of wealth taxes and don't like labour.

But you don't mind the tories who through freezing of income tax thresholds have raised taxes on working people so much it constitutes the largest tax rise in post war British history?

    Right...

I will bring this on here away from the Goodhand Arms.

I'm intrigued to the bit i have bolded. Surely it doesn't matter if you are white, black, brown, yellow, even orange. If you are British you are British. Or is being white British more superior to being non white British.

It is this casual racism that has become the norm nowadays and goes mostly unnoticed.

Unbelievably disgusting that the EDL uses the deaths of children as an excuse for a riot. Abso
They will though. That is what getting older and more experienced does. It changes us. You might drift more right or more left, or some ways left and some right. But you won't stay exactly the same.

This is me. I am such a hybrid mess of left and right now I am in my fifties, that I don't know which side of the fence I sit on.

Okay so you don't directly say it, but you are incredibly emotive about tax rises, which so far, the only prospect is on the excessively wealthy.

Your beloved tories however, have massively increased your income tax in the last 4 years and yet you don't seem annoyed at that at all.

If you are so annoyed by the potential of income tax rises, then why not be so irate when the tories do it to?

Your use of language around labour is incredibly hostile and seemingly, very tribal.

Same can be said about people on here about the Tories, including way before Covid and Boris.

What I will say is that it is all hypothetical at the moment until the budget in October. I agree with you that the potential tax rises coming imminently will mainly affect the wealthy. The Tories really haven't massively increased my income tax either. I've been paying more tax but that's because of pay rises. But I'm better off now than I was 2/3 years ago.

Look, as long as Labour don't raise the 20% basic rate of income tax, or lower the threshold for when you pay 40%, I won't complain.

Unfortunately though income taxes have been raised by stealth. The freezing of personal allowances coupled with wage inflation means that we all pay more tax. The 40% rate used to be for the rich, now many more have stumbled into that and are worse off as a result.

Yeah, they are the people who are suffering. No one should be paying 40% on a yearly salary of £37,501.
