He was the only striker in the squad that day. He didn't force his way into anything, he was the only option.
Either way if we still have no CF by Cardiff and Mayenda starts there will be fans waiting for the first slip-up to lose their ****. Also, our club needs a striker that can score we all know this, losing the first few games due to chances not taken would cause huge backlash from fans and the pressure on Mayenda would be ridiculous. I personally think we have had more than enough time to identify targets and get a deal sorted. Still a good week or so to go so maybe we get one. But I am starting to worry slightly.
well yeah this is the issue, i'd say Asante for example could have easily been do-able for us at 3m. Boro will have signed 2 strikers this window already while we can't even manage to get one
I never said anyone called it optimal, it's just a fact that it isn't. Very fine balance between waiting for the right signing and hurting your season.
Not sure I agree with that one. 12 goals last season and a very powerful and pacey forward that would fit what le bris wants. Not sure we can turn our nose up at that if we can't pay over 5m on a striker. If we do we will end up with no-one. I'm not sure what we expect to sign for the money we have to spend
everyone else is turning their noses up at it, apart from one club. That’s assuming nobody else is in for him, which I assume you are because you’ve assumed we’re not.
He's also been WBA's top goal scorer for the past two seasons. Not sure why you would turn your nose up at it, he hasn't been made available either, Hull wanted him and they've gone and bidded for him. Just think at that price to get a pacey, powerful forward who has been scoring in the league we are in for a playoff team it would be a no-brainer This is just my personal opinion, feeling more worried as the days go by but this whole situation has been a pain in the arse since stewart got injured, let's just get it sorted to give RLB the best chance at succeeding that's the type of mind frame I am in anyway
I like Thomas-Asante, especially at that price. Pretty much performed his xG and has really good shot placement numbers. Tireless worker and from my reckoning very few strikers in the championship had more interceptions per90. Pace to burn and really strong. Quite rash and his first touch leaves a lot to be desired though. Really struggle to find better for a similar price, although it can be done.
I didnt say it was more important to have them by the end of the window. I said as long as we have them by the end of the window, very different points. I said ideally we would have them in by the 1st game but as long as we have them by the end of the window We have made huge huge strides in the player trading model tho, it takes yrs n yrs to get it in the right place. We had no sellable assets, so it takes time to build that 1st - we have done that. We have had 1 big sale, and i have no doubt more will come in the future - however we will only sell at the right price. I know you are really keen in us selling a player for big money to help us kick on - we might have to do that this preseason or next to really kick on. We dont know what our budget is this season before player sales so hard to know if we have to sell to really improve the squad
You could easily flip it the othrr way tho, what if he starts and scores and we win the match. His confidence goes through the roof and he starts to really show his potential/ability - we then bring in a striker to compliment him and we look in a good place Its all ifs buts n maybes at the minute Nothing wrong with being worried, we all want a striker in and we all want one in sooner rather than later (providing they are the right one)
100%. But what I’m saying is if we piss around until the last minute then end up spending over the odds on a striker who’s missed the first 4 games of the season as well as pre season it’s not great. We’re desperate for a 9 and if we’ve found one who we think can go straight into the Xl then £3m isn’t a lot of money to spend on one, as we’ve seen with fees for strikers elsewhere.
There’s absolutely nothing that the club can do to prevent that behaviour from a decent sized group of very online safc fans.
The consensus appears to be that we’re aiming for a permanent deal in the 2-4m range and a prem loan. The loan situation is more likely to work out for us closer to the deadline. That puts a fair bit of pressure on that permanent deal as it’s probably our one shot at it this window. Not surprised they’re being careful. It’s a really tough challenge with not much margin for error. Just have to be sure we balance diligence with indecisiveness appropriately.
This is the most common post I seen put out on social media and for me it’s just not true. We signed four last season (Rusyn, Hemir, Burstow and Mayenda) just because none of those have worked yet it doesn’t mean that we haven’t tried. There’s definitely an argument for recruiting the wrong type of strikers last season but to say it’s unforgivable is a bit over the top for me. Like @Scout73 i am also totally relaxed about the situation and I’d rather we take our time in getting the right one in for the way we are planning of playing going forward rather than one that doesn’t and has only been signed just for another body. I’m hoping for a striker that’s got pace and plays on the line, similar to that of Darren Bent was for us as that’s the type of goal scorer I feel would benefit us the most, it’s just finding him.
There also comes a point where you need a striker to come in and there is a good few options that would do the high pressing required and have scored goals that are available for 5m or under and Asante and Conway are examples of that. We can't expect the full package if we don't fancy paying over 5m really
