Like the 1973 Cup Final - I followed the lads right through to the semis but could not secure a Final ticket, couple of blokes at work who claimed to be ‘supporters’ got Cup Final tickets - nothing change’s it seems.
Same happened to me, amazing that everyone who got a ticket for the final were at every game that season, I think we were getting gates of 12 or 13,000 before Stokoe
I went to the next door neighbours - they had a colour TV and they were mags (probably hoping to see Leeds hump us )
I went to my aunties, she was posh and had a colour TV, I got Porterfield and Malone in the first goalscorers sweep, tried to swap both for Vic Halom but my cousin wouldnt do it
With the likes of Matate and Embo I think it's time to get some fees in and get them off the books. We need to move up a level and loans just delay the problem for a year. When they are likely to leave for nowt. Think we need to clear some space in the squad.
Embletons potential move to Blackpool is a permanent so that's a good start. Not sure we'll get much if anything for a player who hasn't kicked a ball in anger for 18 months or so now though but need to move him on.
Be a low fee, hopefully we add a sell on clause into the deal I like Embo but the time feels right for him to move on
The world is full of gloryhunters mate. They don't put in the hard yards, but want to be there for the final, just to tell their mates. They're always looking for the winners.....they think it makes them look cool and successful.
I don't expect much of a sell on chance. I like Embo, good two footed player with lots of ability, but he lacks mobility in an era when it's so important. I think he can have a good career somewhere near the top of L1.
Decent poster on RTGO said last week player was told to find another club. £100K plus a bit more for appearances.
A load of the fringe players have been told the same. It's getting the right deal though. Our squad is bloated significantly. We need to reduce the filler and increase the quality.
I personally think we need a big sale. Saw it with Coventry when they sold Hamer & Gyokeres but we also need it done sharpish to be able to re-invest it. Clarke is probably the most viable option, shame to see him go obviously but if that money means we can invest it into 2/3 high calibre players then I’m not against it. Key is the timeframe though because selling him on deadline day with zero time to react would be a nightmare.
For some players like Embleton, I'd be happy if the club let them go cheap so the player can benefit from a good move. Doesn't always need to be about business.
