Be very rare to see this sort of things these days, majority of teams now play some form of variation of either a 433 or 4231 with just the 1 striker. Be great to find a system to fit more than one striker in though.
Got a feeling it’s inevitable Mendy ends up here and he will be a good signing imo. he’s had his heart set on it and according to France we’ve been working on a deal ever since his public statement wanting to come here. Don’t think new ownership changes his mind. Mayenda’s situation was sorted 7 days later from his deal being froze. Hopefully it’s similar here
He wrestles because he can’t defend but it’s not worth getting into on here. I agree though we concede far too many goals because of poor positional play and lack of awareness at the back. His attitude is second to none though and he would play anywhere on the pitch just to pull on the red and white stripes I’d have him in the squad every week.
Not the way football is played now, very unlikely to see any two upfront partnerships in the top two tiers of the English game. Clubs tactical setups now are very similar and change season to season, not so long ago we where seeing a lot of three centre half’s with attacking wingbacks on each side and even that seem’s to of disappeared as of late. back when Quinn and Phillips where playing together clubs where fully fledged into 4-4-2.
This is bang on for me. Does a job but if we want to push on then we need an improvement even just to keep him on his toes, worst thing we could do is make him captain going forward as that would make it very difficult to drop him.
I dont think theyd get much more. Hes had one season in the Championship with Coventry and spent most of last season injured with Leicester. Theyd obviously have a big sell on clause added aswell though
He's a very good championship player, and would have no problem with him being captain. 1 of the first names on the team sheet for me.
This team is nowhere near good enough for automatics and you don’t want to replace arguably the worst player in our best Xl so who do we replace? Or do we just not improve because we want the nice lads in our team rather than better players?
Here’s how I would shape the squad: GK: Patterson, Moore RB: Hume, Pembele, Huggins (injured) CB: New (???), O’Nien CB: Ballard, Hjelde, Seelt LB: Cirkin, Alese DM: Neil, NEW CM: Jobe, Aouchiche CM: Browne, Rigg RW: Roberts, Poveda, Ba ST: NEW, NEW, Rusyn LW: Clarke, Mundle So Ekwah, Embleton & Matete sold and Anderson, Triantis, Johnson, Bennette, Mayenda & Hemir loaned out. Would keep Rusyn over Mayenda, Rusyn can play on either wing. Obviously Alese can play CB, just easier to list him as LB. I would also be content if we don’t sign another CB, I’m fine with either O’Nien or Alese starting there regularly. As for new players, I would potentially look at the following players: CB - Harry Souttar & George Edmunson DM - Only player I could think of is Han Noah Massengo, I would have kept Evans. This player doesn’t need to necessarily play week in week out. ST - Daniel Jebbison , Ali Al Hamadi, Alex Mendy, Ike Ugbo, Tom Cannon & Bojan Miovski With our squad at the moment, we could probably get away with only signing one more, but I think a few more will get us challenging higher up the table.
All about opinions mate, so fair enough if that’s what you think about him. I’m willing to bet though that if we ran a poll on this most would say they’d prefer us to replace him going forward. Like I’ve said previously, I can see what he brings to the fold but for me we need to improve on him.
I really dont think ONien is our worst player, but I do agree we are well short of automatics as it stands. I would focus on the striker situation first as whoever plays there currently isnt a good choice. I also do not think we have a player good enough in the number 10 position. Regis seems to hint at playing two 8s, which would suit us I think - almost a box midfield. But I would like a genuine 10 as well for options. After that I would look at the centre backs. ONien doesnt worry me, but beneath him and Ballard I worry. I think we have a lack of quality in the backups. So if we are signing one I would aim for one to compete witg ONien and Ballard and may the best one win.
Doing a poll of supporters doesnt mean a massive amount unfortunately Some will like him as a CB and others wont, your just new to the board but honestly this discussions gets brought up every couple of months or the minute he makes a mistake (when he has a good run of performances nothing gets mentioned) We should always be looking to improve every single position, players that come in this summer have to be 1st teamers (or pushing for that starting jersey). Last summer seemed to be more focused on the future than the immediate Think Speakman has already said that this summer is about quality and hes been true to word so far - i like the 3 signings that weve made and they def improve us
it doesn’t, but it also give you an idea of what the supports opinion is. The O’Nien debate is one that’s been brought out many times before but for good reason I feel, yes I do think he gets scapegoated a lot and what he does bring to the fold gets ignored in those moments, he’s not perfect but like you’ve just said we should always be looking to improve every position, for me he’s the second on the list behind a goal scorer. I like our recruitment model, it’s exciting like real life Football Manager but clearly last season we went a step to far, glad to see some flex in it so far this summer with the signings made so far.
Onien can do an overhead clearance off the line and be loved but the moment he has a lapse in concentration he should be nowhere near the team. Our fans can be so fickle at times. Nosworthy had a similar experience aswell back in the day when he converted from RB to CB.
Not really I’ve maintained that his defensively capabilities are very limited from the moment he went in at CB. Wait for the season to start and the match threads go live, what you’ll see is people going “great pass O’nien” when he plays a ball beyond one opposition player or “incredible block from O’nien” when he actually has to do what he’s there to do and blocks a shot from 20 yards out. Then when he makes the inevitable mistake it’s never his fault it’s always “well hemir could’ve closed their CB down 20 passes prior to the goal so he’s to blame to and Ekwah let them get within 30 yards of our goal”
I didn’t say worst player overall but certainly in our best Xl he is imo. The only reason I added an arguably is because of the striker situation so you’d probably say the 9 and then O’nien. Having some competition for that spot would be brilliant but at the minute there’s not really anyone.
