I was specifically responding to DTLW's point about whether they are PL calibre or not. I think you're probably right about them never getting here unless they prove their ability otherwise. I find this concept of Saints getting players simply to pass on to our sibling clubs very strange. Must make for some interesting accounting arrangements along the line. Not sure I'm comfortable with it all
Yeah I'm not a fan of the whole multi club ownership model either. Would prefer to see it banned tbh.
In theory it should help Saints with players who would not immediately qualify for a work permit. We buy them, they don't qualify, two seasons at Goztepe later, they do. Saints get the players. I'm not a fan, but I can understand the logic. There is also no guarantee that after two seasons at Goztepe they will a) be good enough for Saints or b) want to come here after all!
Linked to Jordan James from Birmingham, along with a load of other PL teams. Ipswich supposedly leading the race
I expect that what this means is they wanted to pay 10 and we’d take somewhere in-between but needed to stop them being silly But it could just be we want 20 and have seen what have paid or rumoured to be paying so far (Wolves defender and the striker who hasn’t had a look in at Villa)
Looking at the Che Adams situation from last year suggests that we don't really care if the player will leave for free. Unless the offer is significant, we are happy to let them leave for free if it means keeping them to help achieve our goals such as promotion/survival.
That seems to have changed though as they have said this summer that they don’t want to be in a situation of players leaving for free again.
Gotta think that is true, They seem to be protecting KWP from getting a injury by not picking him in ANY of the pre season games.
£15m is probably fair, he’s a really good PL fullback. Only one year left on contract. Are wet spam still owed by the porn barons?
Perhaps, but the actions RE KWP suggest otherwise. We let West Ham walk away and buy someone else, it just happened to fall through.
Unless there are other interested parties who might not lowball. I expect a deal is there to be done at 15m but it sounds like West Ham might have gone well short of that
£15m is peanuts in this market, especially for proven PL quality. Really don’t understand why nobody is snapping KWP up.
Perhaps it isn’t peanuts in the context of how much of an upgrade he’d really be. Assuming he’s looking to go an try and be first choice If he wants a good shot at first choice that rules out the traditional big 6 and Newcastle - apart from arguably Man United - who look to be going for the player West Ham wanted instead Villa have Cash and Palace have Munoz and 15m isn’t going to improve them in those positions. So that seemed to really leave West Ham and Brighton because the rest of the sides are all on the slate a potential strugglers who are both arguably not that big a step up and also probably have higher priorities for the 15m especially when the player in questions is in theory available for free next year West Ham have been sort of documented and he doesn’t seem like a Brighton signing. They’d rather pluck a gem from somewhere for a third of the cost and fair play to them. Weren’t they linked with the guy we signed to “replace” KWP. That shows the market they are in Sure this could go out the window if he wants to go and challenge at one of the biggest sides and rely on his versatility to help with that Back in the day when other leagues had money he might have been an option for some overseas. But English players moving abroad was never that common.
