I’d love to see us get Ugbo. He really started to kick on at Wednesday. With creative players alongside him here I think he would do well
I'm hoping it'd be more of a case of signing a ready made strike on loan. I'd rather someone like Cannon or Broadhead than Lankshear and Jebbison.
Really don't think we need a loan if we get Mendy, we've got 3 strikers there behind him who all need to develop and if Mendy is starting game time will be limited anyway. Bringing in a loan and developing someone else's player just seems silly, stick with what we've got and develop them, they've all shown signs in pre-season of improving
It's not as simple as that. If Mayenda would benefit more from a season playing every week in League One, then that makes more sense than giving him 20 minutes off the bench every other week. We're using the loan system to allow us to develop our own players in the most appropriate way.
100% If we get a loan on that’ll contribute more in the here and now, while our own player is off getting regular games, they come back a better player while we’re hopefully at the right end of the league. I do get why people say they want to develop our own, but if they aren’t good enough yet then they need regular games.
I'm of the belief that keeping the young players here is better for their development as they need time with RLB to learn his system. Sometimes going out on loan they don't get the expected minutes or play different systems It's the way city do it most of the time and works wonders for them, look at Foden, Bobb and Lewis. Think it was McAtee saying the other day he wanted to stay and learn rather than going out on loan
Plus, with Hemir and Mayenda, you've got the different culture here compared to what they are used to. You'd think it would make settling at an unfamiliar club on loan more difficult.
Its easier to loan out young players who have come through the academy than it is loaning out young players who have only been with the club for a short time. That being said, even as things stand now 4 into 1 doesn't go so we need to find some solution. It will need to feel to the player that we aren't just casting them aside though. Loan opportunities need to be really well thought through.
City also loaned out loads of players. It depends on what's right for the player. Is the Sunderland system so unique that Mayenda will learn more training with us than playing games further down the pyramid? I don't think so personally. City also play 60 games a season and have the opportunity to play Lewis/Bobb etc in the cups.
We may get a championship standard loan which allows our younger lads that aren't ready to go out and get some experience. We should be all over the loan market
I'd read that we had supposedly bid for another striker before Mendy, but not the £2.5 million bit. Ugbo's name has been mentioned and I think he's likely to have been the player. Snippet from a report below: https://www.sunderlandafc.news/tran...id-for-a-striker-but-its-not-alexandre-mendy/ ..... (Michael) Graham has now revealed that Sunderland have lodged another bid for a striker, and that it’s not Mendy. Graham says that Sunderland made a £2.5million bid for a different striker ‘earlier this month’. Who the striker is remains to be seen, and whether it’s the unnamed striker who played in the Championship last season also remains to be seen. But it appears as though Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is willing to spend money on the right striker this summer. (From Twitter below) "There were also reports saying he wasn’t, though. I have no information at all on Mendy, but I do know Sunderland made a £2.5m bid for another striker earlier this month, so certainly looks like they’re okay with spending a bit. #SAFChttps://t.co/hxM8Zh9J83 — Michael Graham (@Capt_Fishpaste) July 25, 2024"
Think it comes down to whether RLB would prefer them to learn here or elsewhere really, we don't really know what our system is completely yet so who knows. I like Mayenda anyway and think he should be 2nd or atleast 3rd choice
