With the funds in (or projected) for Phillogene and Greaves I don't for one second believe that FFP has impacted or influenced City regarding Matts move in the slightest?
We sold Allsop and Tufan before we made good on the Giles obligation. The Philo and Ingram deals went through the same day. It's not just about income, it's also about offloading the contractural wage liability. We need to shift out to create our own budget. Ingram was always going to go and the club must be confident there are enough targets of a better fit out there. You speak as if we are top of the food chain, but very few clubs have the luxury of risking players coming in then not being able to offload the guy they've been brought to replace. That's exactly what left us with a bloated squad full of expensive deadwood prior to this summer. Obviously youngsters from prem clubs aren't significant enough investments to have a huge impact on those clubs in the same way, so they can often afford to bring in a first choice and let the cover go out after. This summer we don't have that luxury. Judge the keeper situation at the end of the window. I'm sure we'll have someone. Just like most of the other positions the club acknowledge they have to fill and are actively working on. That's when to judge the business, not half way through a restructure.
And when the replacement can't sign because his club won't let him go because they haven't got a replacement, etc, etc? Come on, it isn't a house-buying chain where it all happens at the same time.
I get that people don’t want us to have a bad start so want all the players “in the building” early etc, but we really have to get good long term players this transfer window and that takes time to get right. I’d rather we weren’t as competitive as we could be in the first few games and had proper assets for the next 3-4 years but others seem far more interested in the short term view.
How many are genuinely expecting a promotion push this season... ?.. im with you, lets get the right people in, add to them ion January and next close season now that much of the dead wood has been shed.
Ingram was one of the lowest earning senior squad members, so him leaving doesn't really do us any favours. The replacement for him will almost certainly cost more than he did, so we have to ensure we get priority positions sorted. We have Pandur, Lo Tutala and Cartwright, all of them have played competitive football in the last 12 months so it's not a position we are in a rush to fill. We will need another senior keeper, but we need the attacking bit sorting first.
Seems to be the same people complaining about prior short termism and too much turnover now wanting us to get numbers in fast for the sake of a couple of early fixtures. As you say if they get this right for the longer term then we could have a stable nucleus that will serve us for the next 5 or 6 windows.
We do have to give the gaffer time though, regardless of who it is, unless of course there's a real danger of relegation or serious underperformance over a sustained period.
I'd be happy with that, think Preston fans rated him highly. Remember him standing out when I watched Canada vs Argentina recently but can't recall if that was for good or bad reasons
I am. I am aware I might be in the minority, but we sacked Rosenior who just missed out on playoffs. I know it was more for ‘style of football’ reasons but if we don’t at least maintain being a club who can challenge for the playoffs, then I will deem the change as a failure. There is still time to put together a decent squad and I believe we have some great players at the club already. I am predicting Omur to be in Championship Team of the Season too.
Again it would be another astute signing. One of Preston’s best players - so can cut it in the Championship and at the age of 24 could have a decent sell on value. Seems like this brains team are using their ….brains!
I remember watching Millar for Preston at Elland Road last season and they struggled to deal with him.
Judging by that single championship campaign, 5 goals 5 assists in 35 isn't too shabby. Messaged a Preston pal at work about him and he came back 'he's class'. Much less than 2m is probably optimistic on out part.
Drameh, Moore, Millar, Hughes, Yokuslu, Rodak. Theres been a definite shift in players we're targeting this summer, which I think is a much more sensible approach. I don't mind 1 or 2 gambles from Turkey/abroad but when you're relaying on half your summer signings to adapt to a new league it becomes too much.
If these rumours are true and they come off this is the kind of team building we need to do initially. Building a good solid championship team and then add the flair. Much better signs coming out in recent days
Millar would be a decent buy but now it's been carelessly tossed around on Twitter, other clubs will now have heard of him.
