It's coming up to my time to either renew or buy new car insurance. For the 4th year running, Admiral are increasing the fee quite considerably, even though I am having no accidents or issues. I'm sick of it. However, I imagine this is happening across the board. Can anyone recommend a car insurance company who isn't punishing you for being a good driver? Who do you recommend and why?
I’ve saved a lot of money by using comparison sites. Currently with Aviva who gave a good rate. Never stay with an insurer for too long. They punish loyalty
Well I agree and disagree I sometimes cannot be bothered but when I go on comparison sites they generally help quite a lot This years renewal I have stayed with Aviva as they were as cheap as the comparison sites
I was sold a car by a decent small garage and they said Get a comparison quote with A close postcode Your car but state the car not the number plate Your date of birth plus a few weeks Not your name Ideally another email address and mobile I think Then call the cheapest up and you can get a better price direct Basically beat the system well or it will beat you Never put it to test though If anyone does let me know please
Got our new quote through today by Direct Line. Gone up £282 from last year. They can stick it where the sun don't shine. Wife has already found another thats quoting pretty much what we paid last year. We've been changing every year for 3 or 4 now. How do they think anyone can/will pay these ridiculous price hikes year on year?
Here in Oz, all insurances have gone either doubled or gone close to it, regardless of age or whether you have claimed or not. If you stay loyal to your existing company, you are charged the most. Loyalty is dead. Salespeople get paid for 'new' business. I've alternated between two companies here, for the past 6 years. They want to increase your policy by 50% but then tell you how sad they are that your leaving .............. and why are you leaving us? I do the insurance for my 94 year old mother-in-law. She was paying $1,350 a year for house insurance, now quoted $2,150. Got another quote for $3,850, like for like. Got it for $1,800 ................ after haggling for 45 minutes. Its all a game and you need to be good at it, otherwise it will cost you.
Imagine what your insurance would be if: 1. All stuck to the speed limit ( more or less). 2. No uninsured drivers. 3. No scammers. 4. No drunk or drug fuelled driving. 5. Proper testing of drivers in their 90s or with serious medical conditions. Rates would fall by 50%, not rise! Finally, ban BMWs and no one would need insurance at all!! To answer the OP, as well as comparison sites, a call to a person sometimes helps. By coincidence, I called yesterday and it dropped from 418 to 376 which I thought was reasonable so will renew with LV. Good luck!
We call them Big Massive Wan*ers. Strange that what seems like 80% of all arrogant, obnoxious road-tw*ts drive them isn't it.
Yeah, you tell em’ Kiwi. My wife has a BMW, drives sensible & alike and so do l. It’s those young Arsenal supporting stockbroker types driving M3 or 5’s. Hoods, l tell you, hoods!
Really strange. Last year my insurance went up initially by £200.... After a threat to go elsewhere ...I got £ 90 off. So £110 more than year before. This year it is £70 LESS than the final value of last year.( it is only £40 than 2 years ago.) Obviously I jumped at that quotation ...no argument from me. I am with Sheila's wheels
Insurance companies are bandits. Whether that's car, house or pet insurance. Continually raise prices and always try and weedle out of paying up when you need to make a claim. My dog died and I've still got to pay his insurance premiums for the rest of the year. They were even going to put up the premiums when I told them I'd moved house. Even though the dog is no longer with us! Absolutely loathe the whole industry - sadly, the poor sods on the phones get all the grief when it's not their fault.
This is how to get a cheaper quote than the best quote on a comparison site You cannot get the quote in your name then ring them as the technology stops them talking to you
This is the first year ever that my renewal was cheaper than any new quotes from comparison sites, despite it rising by nearly 180 quid. Customers then quiz why my prices go up.
You have to just keep switching year on year. There is no reward for loyalty these days, in fact quite the opposite as they will try to shaft you. I had a multicar policy with LV and my renewal price was £165 more than the previous year. They had the nerve to tell me this included a multicar discount.
Btw, thanks for all the replies. I did read. Went with Hastings in the end. My existing insurer, Admiral, did give me a discount over the phone but couldn't offer anything near what else I've found.
