He broke through in the second half of that season, think he's established himself in L1.

That's a bit different to proving yourself in a solid/good championship side.

There's some nuance in the statistics, perhaps.

I've mentioned Hughes a few times, it would be a great deal.

I've never been massive on Edwards though, seen him most for England and he's a very decent player but I think a lot of the hype is because he wasn't at a big club and was attainable for half the Championship. At £3m it's a no brainer for Saints though as he'll probably be an 8-figure defender.

Edwards is very very good on the ball. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s moved to the middle as he does lack size to really be an elite centre back.

That video makes him look like the kind of player that if he was French he'd be 30m.

Certainly looks the real deal. Lets hope it comes good and he fits in with Walters tactics.

People get put off by the level, and I think PL clubs have that much money that they'd happily pay an extra £10-15m a little bit later down the line for a more developed player. Like how do you give him enough minutes at PL level without him costing you points whilst developing him to his fullest? Or you end up sending him on loan, but that's not easy either.

If you're taking it seriously you absolutely need a week, maybe 2.

Fair point, it was incorrect to say he never fancied him. As someone else pointed out, it was more that he didn't fancy him after the first season, when he was very deliberately transitioning us into a high-pressing side. Once that happened, Macca never got a look in. That Leeds away game really showed it; Greaves was suspended but he moved everyone around and put Coyle in the middle instead of playing Macca, because he wanted to go toe to toe with them and man-mark all over the pitch and he obviously thought Macca can't do that.

I think this is the way the game is going and Walter seems to be so extreme that he wants even the goalkeeper to be part of a high press. I think players like McLoughlin will be fine at teams who play defensively, but they're not what modern, progressive managers want.

McLoughlin's papers were stamped after the first half at Swansea I thought, where he was essentially at fault for both goals we conceded. We took him off at HT and got back to 2-2.

Not a bad shout, I can see both either going on loan again or moving on permanently. Smith didn't do himself any favours against Donny and Taylor was eye marked as potentially the next Greaves, but his loan in Ireland was hardly a success.

Hull City head coach Tim Walter says he remains hopeful of more new faces before Saturday's first home friendly of the summer against Newcastle United at the MKM Stadium.

Walter highlighted the need for more new faces after his second string were thrashed 4-0 by Doncaster Rovers at the Eco-Power Stadium on Tuesday night, on a day when the Tigers signed Cody Drameh from Leeds United on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

City are working on adding as many as nine new players to their squad before the transfer deadline closes on August 30 at 11pm, with talks over a goalkeeper, central defender, midfielder and striker ongoing. They also remain hopeful of being able to snatch Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan from Crystal Palace, despite strong interest from Southampton, who want a permanent deal for the young winger.

9 more players would be 10 total with Drameh which isn't too bad. Also depends on the quality/age blend. But that's promising sounds finally. If the aim is new faces plural before Newcastle then that would be good. Another 2-3 players in this week, then another couple before the start of the season is a lot more than was previously being suggested.

Hopefully it's 2 shortly, but at this moment in time it's only 1 new face in (Drameh).
And by my reckoning, it's 15 of last season's squad players we've lost (excludes Woods, Robson, Covil, soon to include Lokilo).

Tbf, aerial photos of 'our' academy at BB would probably look equally as good, if not better. It's now a really good set up in a lovely location. But, it's not ours, and the salient point of the OP was that it's a quite a few miles away from the 1st team portakabins.
