Just in case anybody wondered, we offered him a contract so that training compensation has to be paid to us as a 'transfer fee' even though he is out of contract. Could be worth anything between 75k and 400k for us depending on what the clubs agree.

True, the others were rarely used, but they were still members of the 1st team squad and could have/were called upon from time to time. Whilst we might have enough up front and in goal, I'd be hesitant to call Crew or Aaronson as central midfield options in anything but an emergency. Leaving us just three solid options. And crucially we have only 6 defenders - and two of them are injury prone.
I’m not saying we don’t need more players in just that you shouldn’t keep players just to make up the numbers, you have to try and recruit players that might take a first team players place. My view was other than Gray and Kamara anyone else let go wouldn’t be competing for a start this season.
No, I think we have the first team starting XI sorted Just that we need a reasonably large squad for 3 reasons: 1. During any given match Farke needs to be able to call on quality substitutes for any position - during last season Farke was always using the same players as subs 2. The best starting XI won't always be available Firpo for example is sure to pick up an injury 3. I think the team ran out of steam in the final stretch last season. Farke needs to be able to rotate the starting XI more so as to keep the players as fresh as possible. Farke seems to agree to that he needs a full back and central midfielder: Counter 6:05 I like The View and watch it on YouTube most days.
I get all that but I’m presuming all those let go Farke didn’t consider good enough. No point in keeping quantity if the quality is poor, that’s the point I’m making.
We started last season with 3 RBs yet part way in, the preferred option by Farke was to allow them to leave and use Gray. No team at this level will have two equal players in every position
I'm old school. Only buy if it improves the first XI. That way the original first teamer will become a sub and make the squad stronger.
