I don't think I'm being naive at all.

His supporters will enjoy his acting like a thug. They always do. But they were going to vote for him anyway. He has to win over the undecided voters and that selection has now broadened given the reset in candidates

The swing vote tend to be relatively level headed and won't be won over by him trying to bully a woman with personal jibes. I'd go as far as to say it could well have the reverse effect.

He was winning them over by showing Biden was entirely unable to keep up and stay out of the muck. If Kamala or whoever else it is remains on policy and doesn't stoop to dick measuring and jibes about golf, Trump will start struggling because he isn't up against a geriatric any more, he is the geriatric.

All of a sudden Trump has a totally different issue.

His record on how he regards, and treats, women has landed him in trouble many times before ...

... not least an embarrassing court appearance with a porn star who urged his wife to leave him.

He's now a convicted felon and will find it hard to keep trying to play the 'Farage card' of 'everyone's trying to silence me'.

I'd assume he is still in a better position than you would hope given all of the above but he is going to have a much harder time looking like the sensible choice against someone lucid who can point out quite clearly all the harm he has done and that time he became a convicted felon.

He's very much like Boris Johnson who's now been sussed by most people, imo, and looks a little embarrassing.

I always thought men envied Johnson as he'd just laugh his way out of tight corners, shag anyone he wanted and bully people without any consequences. Some women like a bad boy and lots of people are easily entertained by all the JCB stunts, zipwires and grandiose blather ...

... but that can only go on so long and, when the effect starts to fade, Johnson sought to reverse it by becoming a virtual caricature of himself.

Having made capital of being the younger more vibrant man I think Trump will now be wearing Biden's shoes and looking like a daft old orange fella in a wig.

    We'll see ....

She does not seem that rhetorically gifted to me, speaks in platitudes and sometimes in circles, also if she leans heavy into DEI, "I'm a black women" rhetoric, that could turn some neutrals off as well. I don't think Trump is nailed on, though he's obviously the favourite, I think most people have already made up their mind tbh.

I can't say I'm a big fan of hers at all but it's just a much more level playing field than it was two weeks ago.

Trump wasn't running unopposed, he was running against an opponent who it seemed was in fact hellbent on proving Trump to be the better candidate.

At least there is some level of opposition now. Trump needs to step up.

That's fair. He was essentially running against a crash test dummy with Biden, and I say that with a little bit of sympathy.

I have some serious worries about Trump's VP and the people he is associated with, they are very heavy on support for Israel and remind me a lot of the neocons during the Bush and Blair era, in essence they're good when it comes to activating the base with certain words and terms, but I have a sneaking suspicion that is going to be used to convince people to support going to war with Iran.

She just gave a rousing speech in her first rally in Wisconsin. Hit all the right buttons. Early days but Trump has something to think about.

Swing voters didn't want trump but wanted Biden even less.

Latest poll has Harris leading trump by 4 points. The same poll (or a poll by the same group) had trump leading Biden by 4 points 1 week ago.

That shows that Harris has a good chance of turning the tide for the democrats

I also watched her speech earlier. Thought she talked well, made good points. Both against trump personally and about her policies. She's a prosecutor going against a convicted geriatric criminal.

The only thing the republicans seem to be able to say is that she messed up immigration. She doesn't need to convince die hard republicans that she didn't mess it up, only the neutral (swing) voters

Just read a bit of state of play article and it seems the undecided have moved over to Harris. She's been comparing him to the criminals she used to prosecute which is just a lovely thing to be able to reel out.

I think Trump's goose is cooked if the numbers are correct. If he isn't leading now, he won't win.

I think, (HOPE), that you have it right.
Elections are not won by those who always vote the same way.
It's the 'swing voters', the ones who make their minds up, and consider the issues, that carry the day.

If we ask what might have changed to make Bush more popular, I can only think of his being shot at.
Against that are his Court appearances and his newly acquired, Criminal Record.

Kamala Harris has been an ideal VP.
She has kept in the background doing those jobs that Joe couldn't, and not taking any of the limelight away from him.
But, now she has her big chance.
Since she is a 'Lady of Colour', it's no good pretending that this isn't going to handicap, on both counts.
But HOPEFLLY thing are just a little better than they once were.
If she can get the 'Big Guns', lined up behind her, the Obama's for instance I believe that she will have a godd chance.
Were she to get Michelle Obama to run as her VP, with her I think that Donald would be very sick bunny!:emoticon-0116-evilg

Someone else has supposedly had a go at trying to shoot Trump

    https://mol.im/a/13853143

Now I'm not in the know when it comes to trying to
assassinate someone but why would you leave all kinds of evidence such as the rifle, 2 backpacks and a camera to incriminate yourself?

How anyone can believe a single word that bloke says is beyond me.

With what is going on in Russia, Ukraine and the Middle East he could very well be the tipping point that escalates both conflicts to a much wider war.

2 apparent assassination attempts. Zero evidence of them being actual assassination attempts. It's almost as if he and his team are trying to create some sort of maelstrom around him to curry favour with the floating voters...

I find it bewildering that there's such a willingness, from so many intelligent people, to believe anything these people say. As with Boris Johnson the sheer lust for power and blatant lies were all excused as 'charisma'. Any criticism is instantly defended to a totally disproportionate degree, some might be said to be fanatical.

I really don't understand it tbh, there seems to be a bitterness and anger in the world that's self destructive.

    I don't think it's a good thing, we're better than that.

He could well be the cause of escalation ( I always thought though that Biden was itching to fight ) but maybe he’s daft enough to fly to Moscow and start talking ?

Because he was apparently spotted and ran away. Running away carrying a rifle tends to make you a bit conspicuous.
