Playing up at High Spen, their pitch had a hell of a slope from goal to goal and we were kicking up the hill. We got a corner and I hung back to mark their centre forward while our centre half went up for it. I was on the half way line and their keeper punched the ball out towards me. I took a couple of steps forward and tried to hit it back into their box and it flew like a rocket into the top right corner, a good 48 yard pile driver, I never admitted it was a fluke.
The best one I didn't score was at our home ground, the Morrison Busty. Again from a corner I took up position just outside of their box. The corner taker picked me out and I hit a volley as clean as a whistle into the top corner only for the referee to rule it out for offside, he said the corner taker was in an offside position. I couldn't believe it, a referee that had no clue what the rule was. The same bloke, Jacky Glasgow, sent me off a year later in the County Cup semi final, I don't know what I ever did to him, but he definitely had a downer on me, I guess I must have shagged his daughter or something.

Played in a West of Scotland really amateur league aged 35. A team mate hammered a pass forward into the packed box, I trapped, turned and blasted it into the corner. I woke up after a late tackle to be pleased to find I'd scored.

When I was 11 playing for Cleadon Village junior school we reached the cup final. Second half a cross came in from our winger Lee Monaghan....think his dad Frank used to play for Man Utd....he fairly tanked the cross in well which I lost it in the sun but it bounced off my head and to utter disbelief to all ended up in the back of the net. A eleven year old scoring with a header....thought I was the dogs bollocks. Head still ringing a bit today with the weight of those footballs then :)
