Based on Kane's performances throughout? I would have left him out. I saw a rumour that he has been playing on injections for a back pain. That alone would have been a good excuse not to play him. In the last 2 games he has been taken off and on both occasions a subbed striker scored within minutes of coming on. Say no more. 18yo Kobbie Mainoo has been a revelation
If anyone thought we could beat Spain judged on what we'd seen in Germany then they needed to get a grip. Yet we only lost 2-1. My feeling is we had the best squad but not the best team on the park. They were oh so defensive and the statistic of for10 minutes after the England goal in the final that England made 70 passes in their own half but none in Spain's says it all. Our midfield was very weak and lost all shape after Spain's first goal. When that happened we were very vulnerable to counter attacks (as we had been against Holland) and that's where Spain's 2nd goal came from. Mainoo should have been off at half-time and it was sheer stupidity that it was past 70 minutes when he was replaced by Palmer. Kane didn't look right all tournament and I think I'd have tried Bellingham in his place in the second game with Foden taking his position and Palmer a starter rather than coming on with 10 minutes to go. They never played well so we shouldn't be surprised we didn't win.
I always felt Max Verstappen was a poor champion and, now he suddenly isn’t running away with every race, his pettiness and abuse of his own team is proving it.
Very learned, Oddy, but surely the athletes of Ancient Greece were purely “amateurs,” not the overpaid, sulking, and arrogant professionals who lost any honour along with their childhood faith.
Olympic news Charlotte Dujardin: British dressage star pulls out of Paris Olympics after video emerges showing her "making an error of judgement" - BBC Sport
Boos from the frogs: they didn't like it. Watched the women's event yesterday and couldn't help but feel the BBC expert was intimating that the course had been set up for the French cyclist. She absolutely walked it. The 'expert' said a couple of times she's a great cyclist but technically challenged on certain courses (but not this one).
Disgusting behaviour by some French fans after Tom Pidcock won the gold in the mountain bike event, beating the hot French favourite almost on the final turn, and all this after his bike sustained a puncture duriing the race, putting him some 40-seconds behind at the time. Hell of a fight-back by Pidcock. The boos and catcalls do not surprise me, the frogs have always been particularly lousy losers in sport. I know, I know, don't remind me, and so are the Brits too! Ze Germans are no pussycats either, letting off fireworks and smoke bombs at football events, etc.
Missus saw a video of a women's Rugby Union game for the very first time the other day. She didn't know females even played the game. Wife was totally gobsmacked (are these really women?)
Reminds me of the Benny Hill character in "The Italian Job" - when he sees al the Italian Mamas and says "I like em BIG" Stick to Beach Volleyball Swanny
How about Alex Yee in the mens tri? Some effort and balls of steel to get up for the win. A gold medal a fitting compensation for the upcoming bout of ecoli
No way would I swim in the Seine Loved the surfer pic though - one of the most magical sports photos I have ever seen
