In the early 60s I remember winding the gramophone Playing poetry in motion Then my first record was bought in the early 60s I feel fine by the Beatles
First single i actually went to a shop and bought was Don't Cry For Me Argentina by Julie Covington. My Mam sent me up Charlie Butt's in Concord to get it for her. First record I bought for myself was the Black Sabbath album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Think I bought it in 1978, and cost 89p. Still got it, still play it, and still my favourite Sabbath album.
The first single that I bought was 'Rubber Bullets' (10cc), which has 'stood the test of time' and my first 78 was the iconic 'Band on the Run' which needs no explanation (I've got it on yellow vinyl) . . . . my 2 favourite songs on that are 'Bluebird' and 'Picasso's last words (Drink to Me)' which some may not have listened to before, so here it is
First 2 CDs I ever owned were 2 Unlimited 'No Limits' and Bitty McLean 'just to let you know' which I got for Xmas as part of my 'big present' which was a ghetto blaster! One of those albums stood the test of time, I'll let you guess which . First CD I ever walked up to the counter and bought with my own pocket money, from Chester-le-street Woolworths, the single of Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex. Definitely not one I still listen too!
Greatest Hits - The Lovin` spoonful, bought in the original Virgin Music store in Oxford Street. Still have it but haven`t listened to it in decades - it`s crap!!
Songs from the big chair, never really bought singles. But that album had, "everybody wants to rule the world", "shout" and my favourite "Head over heels"
First 45 This guys in love, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, loved the tune and the trumpet First album Bob Dylans greatest hits volume 2, which I still have Both from Barnets Consett 1968
Borrowed that one school dinner time. Listened to it, returned it and dolled off school and went to town and bought it.
