It's like saying Palestinians should just put up with Israel's systematic land grab since 1967, the control of their borders, what comes in and out, the settlements and illegal building, forcing them from their homes, enforcing curfews, denying them autonomy, putting down protests with imprisonment, torture or being shot dead. Because it's better than what's happening now.

But yeah they are all skipping along living happily and peacefully <laugh>

Thats's a shame... because Danny Drinkwater is definitely a Cornish name ... similar in origin to Patsy Pastymuncher and Freddie Ferretfùcker ...

See what you've done here @brb

Got Fosse talking about Lesta's title and cracking terrible puns

Israeli occupation is preferable to this.

I think you are confusing Pinkies with Pixies, but if you are transitioning from a gooner into a pixie I am sure this forum will support you on this long and arduous journey

The West Bank was part of sovereign Jordan in 1967, having been annexed by them in 1950 with the permission of Palestinian Elders and Leaders as voted in the Jericho Conference in 1948. I.e. native Palestinians voluntarily accepted Jordanian rule. Ironically, the UK was the only major world power to formally recognise this annexation.

The West Bank was granted 30 seats in the Jordanian parliament, and it's residents granted full citizenship.

Most of Jerusalem therefore fell under Jordanian rule. All Jewish residents of the Old City were thrown out, and over 50 synagogues and holy sites either destroyed or converted into compost dumps. Ancient Jewish cemeteries dating back thousands of years were used as latrines for military barracks around the city.

Then Jordan, together with Egypt, Syria and Iraq lost the war in 1967, despite outnumbering Israel 2:1 in troops and aircraft, and 3:1 in tanks. Israel conquered the West Bank through its victory.

Jordan continued to claim.sovereignty over the West Bank, refusing to recognise the Palestinians as a separate political entity with a right to self-determination, until July 1988.

So, from 1967-1988, Israel was occupying part of Jordan having beaten it in a war.

From 1988-1993 the area was in political limbo due to the first intifada and then the early stages of Oslo.

From 1994-2001, Oslo and then Camp David were meant to oversee the first concrete steps towards Palestinian sovereignty over the West Bank. But after Camp David collapsed, Barak lost the next election to Sharon and the Israeli centre-left has been in the doldrums ever since.

The biggest jumps in settlement expansion came in the years preceding Oslo as the Rabin govt bolstered it's stance on peace by moving to guarantee a presence in pockets of the land (1983-1993), and again in the wake of the Camp David collapse and second intifada (1994-2004). The settlement population more than doubled on both of those occasions.

There hasn't been a comparable increase in settlement population per decade since then, although the numbers are of course rising year on year at a steady rate.

What's my point in all of this?

I guess it's just been a while since a write an essay for @brb to print off and wipe his arse on.

    Goodnight all.
