Not sure the list is as big as you think. Yes there'll be a database of players that's huge, but we won't (or shouldn't) put any to Tim that haven't been already vetted and along the lines of what he wants. They'll also have to be obtainable otherwise what's the point in offering then. So once the list has been whittled down from that then to still not even get the ball rolling on 80% when we need about 10 players minimum is a bit concerning imo.
I suppose it depends on how much time and resource is going into the rejected 80%, if it’s just a name on a list then that’s fine. But if they’re having conversations with a player/agent only for it to be rejected by the coach later down the line then that seems like a terribly inefficient way of going about business.
TBF I think the fact he's rejected players is a good thing and not sure it can be seen as anything but that, he knows what he wants and won't settle for less. That's what we want in a gaffer
Years ago Hartlepool's manager stated that they had a list of around sixty possible transfer targets, they moved down the list as targets were missed/hit. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Agree. It suggests we'd need to present (roughly) 500 players to Tim to get to the ten we need. Of course he's probably not literally turning down 80% but to suggest it's no big deal is rather disingenuous.
It’s a good deal for him. He just needs to go out on loan to get some experience!! There’s a team on the northeast coast who are on the lookout…
Oh absolutely its a good thing Tim knows what he wants and who would fit in, i think it's more the other side not doing their job as well as they could. Imagine you told me what kind of player you wanted, profile, position, style etc. And then when i come back with say, a 10 man shortlist from the 50 originals that ive whittled down to what i think you want... You dont like 8 of them. Just think our scouts/recruitment team should have a better hit rate.
Tbf from my time working as a scout that's pretty standard, a recruitment/scouting teams job is to present options, the longer a team & manager has worked together the easier it gets. But I honestly wouldn't be worried about the numbers we've seen today.
Tell that to T Geraghty, (no, not that one) and the government censor of the time. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
You’ve got to think though, the 10 targets also have different availabilities, take up different size chunks of the budget. If they took him bud perfect ideal right back as a target, but it means he can’t sign another winger, he’d turn it down as we have Coyle.
