I think it's just realism. We've probably got 7/8 players you can rely on for a proper push at this level, there's probably a few caveats in there too. It's all well and good saying players will come in, I'm certain they will, but the number of players we need with 3 and a bit weeks to go makes it highly unlikely we'll have a chance at competing at the top end.
There's always a chance - a team like Forest in recent years has shown that - but it's certainly the exception rather than the rule.
I'm in no rush to leave the Championship, it's a great league to be apart of. If we can finish 10th with a larger number of permanent players, it would be a major success.
I wouldn’t say highly unlikely but certainly not doing ourselves any favours. If Walter is having a big day and that’s part of the reason for the delay I’m very pleased as it shows a commitment to building long term in terms of signings.
Spot on, id be curious to see how we’d do under this ownership in the premier league but i am in no rush watching games with VAR in and getting beat every week
Just watched the press conference from today and it appears we expect to do the bulk of our business in the last week of the window. It’s one hell of a risk, as we saw with Rak-Sakyi falling through on deadline day last year. Would also put us at a huge disadvantage going into the first 4 league games.
When you leave business late, you're always going to end up short. We did last year and I think if people look at the league objectively, we lost the play off race because of it. The loan market is intriguing this year, we did really well off Delap, Morton and you can even count Jaden in that for the young players. But all those young ones we signed had Championship experience. They'd done the early parts of their learning so it gave them something to build off for us. This year, there isn't many players like that and we'll probably end up taking players who are making their first steps into senior football, or haven't played at the level before. So they'll end up learning with us and we'll get a lot of rawness and likely won't see the best out of them.
last season's starting line up for the Norwich game was, Ingram Coyle, Jones, Greaves, Vinagre Traore. Slater, Seri. Vaughan Tufan. Delap bench - Simmons, Longman, Christie, McLoughlin Fleming, Connoly, Lokilo, Lo-Tutala by the time the season starts, I'm sure the team will look better than that - we already have Pandur, Giles and Omur
Agreed. I do think that a loan window up until the end of September should be allowed though too so anyone looking for a move that couldn’t get one during the window has the opportunity to move.
We're obviously not going to start the season without a complete team, the loans are likely to run towards the end of the window, but we'll have bodies in ahead of the start of the season.
Think there's still a few looking back on last year, remember Delap hadn't exactly set the world alight before he came here. You can't say this season won't be interesting, might have a much weaker team (although by the end maybe not) but we've got a new manager, young players pushing their way in and a new style of play. We might surprise ourselves, or **** the bed.
