That was 31m, with a load more watching online (I'm not sure if the online/download figures come in later).

it's the comparison to Spain's equivalent run......and all luck of the draw but theirs looks like a proper run to a final, which they comfortably dealt with.....miles apart really

To be fair, it's what some elite sports psychologists are recommending pre-game/competition... It's a way of switching off and relaxing - reading a phone, playing cards/gambling and listening to certain types of music increases stress and causes adrenaline to spike too early. Some sprinters are using it now. Whatever works, should never be afraid of trying new techniques.

Apparently a Spanish side (club & international) hasn’t lost a major final in a World or European competition in 22 finals in a run stretching back to 2001. The Spanish side has won 22/22.

Maybe our lot get too relaxed. How many times do we see opponents start a game at pace, bit of fire in their bellies, put us under the cosh? Maybe we should try that. A lot of people this morning are saying how much the squad like Southgate, want him to stay, etc. Is he a bit too soft with them? Just a thought.

Surely more for the biggest derby in the universe and everywhere else when the streets were deserted as fans gathered in clubs and fan zones round the country as a nervous nation waited to see whether the red and whites or black and whites would prevail?

    From one guardian sports writer,

"But Kane had hardly led the charge for England and it was little surprise, as the 20-minute mark passed, that he had not touched the ball. When he finally did, it resulted in a booking for the follow-through on Aymeric Laporte."

    And another,

"In attack Harry Kane had offered all the mobility, touch and spring of a rain-sodden hay bale"

Not just me then, this solitary minority of one, who called it. And called it from the first game. If's but's maybe and balls and aunt and all that, would it have made a difference if he had not started? Sadly, I think not. Spain just too good.

When England fail to get anywhere in future tournaments, it’ll be down to the “difficult route.”
Southgate should go, not because of failing to win a trophy, but because he’s not going to get any recognition for the job he’s done until the next manager fails miserably!

Spain were worthy winners. Won every game they played and looked the best team on the pitch every time they played.

    We didn’t, by any stretch.

    So where are we?

In Europe we are now firmly established alongside France, Germany, Italy. We’ve pulled ahead of the likes of Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium.

We are established as a team which should be getting to semi finals and finals and it’s obvious that that is as far as Southgate can take us.

He’s gone. Kane’s gone. Time to look forward. We’ve a crop of young players of real quality. Now just need the right coach to galvanise them.

Big call for the backwards looking FA.

Like him or loathe him, he delivered progression through to the final rounds of competitions we've only been able to dream of for many years.

There's this fallacy that someone coming in and playing attractive, attacking football will be as much a success and deliver the promise land. Unfortunately it's not as simple as that, there's been many a flash in the pan manager that sets their teams up to play "proper" football, but they soon get found out, never to be heard of again.

He should be applauded for that success, no matter how it was achieved, and people will do well to remember the grass isn't always greener.

Now I'm wonder whether I'm still talking about England, or City ;)
