I want him to stay tbh. If he goes then I think Howe is the obvious choice and I care more about Newcastle by a country mile than England.
England failed to win the Euros by a goal scored with just 5 minutes to go by the best team in the tournament. But I blame Southgate for wasting the talents of a number of our players - who offered nothing on the left wing for the whole thing. Watkins, Toney, Palmer, as well as Anthony Gordon were not given enough time on the pitch to make that difference. Trips did well enough defensively but he's no left winger. Southgate can hopefully go off into retirement, though I feel the FA will want to keep him.
Southgate ****ed this up. No pissing about this time. None of this he’s done well ****. He’s played more or less the same starting 11 from day 1 and never changed it unless he had to. The only reason why he’s in this position is because of Bellinghams individual brilliance on the overhead kick. Sakas brilliance on the cut in goal. Watkins taking a snapshot pot luck strike. And Palmers similar strike. After which Southgate instructed the players to sit deep and play for the draw. Hes the biggest fraud in world football.
He seems to think he’s blessed, sticks with his one plan far too long and cannot adjust - subs come in as like-for-like and still he persists thinking having no left wing threat is some kind of clever-arse “system” - it’s not, it had zero positive affect the whole tournament. It just meant teams could focus on Saka and the throng of England players getting in each other’s way in the middle…. and the majority wisdom after the SF became “he’s got us to 2 Finals, most successful manager since Alf etc etc” - but we had one single solo isolated decent game out of 6. He should be sacked.
Absolutely …. individual moments; that’s not a plan, that was dumb luck obscuring his inability to play his best players - who proved themselves time and again as subs but weren’t allowed to ****ing start - and a ****e shape
Most people can't use their eyes when watching a team play. The fact is a massive amount have been simply looking at how far England are getting and making the assumption they must be a good side. They're incapable of reading beyond the top line. England are dreadful! They create NOTHING..... they stink out tournaments with unadventurous football and ****house their way through. Even if it means cheating vs Denmark for a pen extra time or this time vs Holland. They survive on the rare long range effort or deflected cross. The fans ? Singing it's coming home ? it's the biggest wah wah 'but we invented/it was our idea ' tantrum ever... seriously so what? ... let us know when you win it. The manager? He's been actively blaming the fans and he's probably right to a degree, but seriously these people don't even like the fans... they used the fans as motivation to say **** you....thank God they lost... football wins.
Okay, England were poor. They certainly weren't the best team in the tournament and didn't deserve to win it. They got closer than they should. The rest of what you said though is just an opinion piece with no factual evidence to support any of what you said. .........and this is coming from a Scotsman that was also part Danish/Slovakian/Slovenian/Serbian/Swiss/Dutch/Spanish
I think under usual circumstances he wouldn't consider doing it at this point in his career but we do have a good crop of players I think he would back himself to get the best out of. I wonder if a shot at a world cup with a team that had a good chance might tip the balance if the FA came for him?
Then you agree mate and hold alternative opinions not declared. Anyway I'm more interested in the summer window now gents. See you all in that thread.
Southgate/The FA need to duck out of this right now whilst he's on a perceived high. At some point he's going to run out of luck with draws, why wait until you've exited at the group stage or worse before getting pushed? I mean, the warning signs were there when Hungary spanked his dire side 4-0.
It's all somewhat of an irrelevance now because the period in which the big nations had dips are over. The next manager will get tougher draws on top of the improving great nations all across the globe. The once in half a century opportunity has ended and the managers of the next 100 years will all be compared vs Southgates runs and inevitably come up 2nd.
In all seriousness it's pretty refreshing that we could put out a full 11 of Englishmen who would give most teams in the prem a good game.
And that team doesn't include the one player we had actually playing each game for England in the Euros. Nor our captain, the goliath and leader that he is.
