Franky Lamps, had his interview live on BBC the other day. Micah and Linekar calling for him to get the job
Spain tactically superior and best team in the tournament. Equally Southgate showed too much loyalty to Kane throughout the tournament and tactically hamstrung us, effectively reducing us to nine outfield players. We have a greatly talented squad of players, we just need now a manager who can get us to the next level. Southgate has done an amazing job in turning around England's fortunes but l think a major trophy is just a little beyond him.
Agree, there are times when I criticize Southgate and there are times when I think he has done well. He has done an amazing job at getting us to the final hurdle, but hasn't got us over the line. Potter is probably likely coming in, but looking at Spain makes me fancy getting Poch in. I think we can wish Southgate well, but I want to see someone else have a go now.
Next tourney is ours! No Southgate, no Kane, and our talented players will be given a fair chance to compete.
What a shame for Southgate to get so far only to lack the bravery to really reach the next level. His lack of faith in the bench cost us all throughout the tournament. Fair play, he has had a very good tenure as manager but without a doubt it is time to change. Good on Spain, they were the team it was easy to support. Great football.
Devastated. Thought we competed well. Southgates tactical naivety cost us again imo. Mainoo was our best player and he took him off. Don’t understand that. We are capable of competing with the top sides and I thank Southgate for that. But it’s clear he’s taken us as far as he can. Less annoyed about this one as Spain are clearly the best team in Europe. We should have beaten Italy.
My choice would be Howe, but he won't leave Newcastle. So yeah, Lamps or Potter. Obvs if Klopp is willing then give him what he wants.
Lampard? People must be joking surely? That's just gonna be another Southgate where the biggest issue is tactically. I'd have no faith at all in him doing better than Gareth has done. If we're going English then Potter and Howe are the only contenders for me. I'd prefer the former but think latter more likely. Discussion for tomorrow anyway. Gutted despite being proud of the lads.
I do rate Potter, l think he would be a good fit. Only downside is he has not won anything. Sport, all sport, seems to bring forth natural winners, those with talent and drive, but also some other inherent ability to surpass others - that X Factor. I never saw that in Southgate and l am not so sure Potter has it either.
If we go down the English route, then my money would be firmly on Potter. But I would like to think that the FA would at least sound-out Poch and Klopp first. (Maybe even a tentative discussion with Pep, given the rumours he might leave City next summer.) The next two tournaments being in North America and the UK could be an advantage.
