    Normal people, ignore this post.

I was just talking to Cris, the head gardener from Mackenzies, about the match tomorrow.

He'll be at his local club, in the village, with his mates who are all 'Travellers' and a rough bunch.

He was telling me they were there for the Holland game and absolutely ratted. In the function room, next door, was a pre-planned anniversary party for a Gay couple celebrating twenty years together. After the match they all mingled in the function room so Cris and the Travellers were dad dancing with transvestites and singing ABBA songs on the Karaoke <laugh>

He's down there again tomorrow and hoping there's no embarrassing video of them on the big screen!

My missus wanted to host a bbq for the quarter, where we were expecting to play Italy. I warned her about buying any Italian beer or meats :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I am crying a few years here. Been round to see my Dad, who cant cope with a game at 8. He will be wiped out by then. Would have loved to watch it tomorrow with him, but I wont push it. He is an old and frail man.

Full transparency, England has always been my number 1 love. Tonight my dad relived the times I cried my eyes out watching them. I am, I think, a country over club fan. He says so. He is as Sunderland as they come, but as a bairn I only wanted to be an England player he says. Anyway, long story short, he had me dig out a box for him. It had all kinds of old Sunderland stuff in it, which he says is for the brothers to share. But there was a hand held flag which he said is from 66. Apparently they were given out to anybody in his pub. He gave it to me and said you are too keen on that bloody side, but I hope they win it just for you. He isnt an emotional fella, but I think we might have shared a moment. I am feeling desperate.

England winning tomorrow will be my happiest moment. All I really want. I go back to watch the likes of Mick Mills and co. God I loved them all. This lot though have my heart. I have met Southgate and spoke to him several times. He is a brilliant man. We have players that would run through walls for us. We have subs who would give it all.

To me, in my time, this is it. I wont sleep tonight. Tomorrow will drag. But I love my England and believe. Spain are great, but this is about our players. One trophy in my life is all I want. If my Dad gets to see me smile I think he will love that too.

    Haway England.

Great post mate, I wish you and your Dad well, I really do.

Full transparency, I'm the complete opposite. I took my two eldest sons to the France and Germany World Cups and they loved it. They'll be just like you tomorrow whereas I'll be more upset that we lost to Gateshead than if England lose to Spain. My own Dad fought for his country in Sicily, Italy, France and Egypt but didn't even watch the 1966 WC Final.

These things aren't logical but, as long as we care, that's what matters to us ...

... no one ever said football was supposed to be logical, enjoy your day mate.

Good luck to you and your Dad. Hope it all works out for you…..and the rest of us. It will be a real shot in the arm for the Country if we do it, and I think we will!

I'll be honest, I don't really care about the England team. I used to, very much so, I'm not sure what it is that's gradually killed it for me over the years.

For your sake though and for everyone like you I'll be right behind us. You have the right attitude 100%.

I genuinely believe today is the day! Southgate and the boys to get over the line, England to turn up when it matters.

    It's coming home!

Many battles to be fought all over the pitch. Some with strength and pace, others with guile and intelligence. Spain's wingers.... England's super subs... Rodri v Foden and Bellingham... The game is brilliantly set up. Come on England!

Great post mate. I'm like a few on here I'd rater Sunderland win the league cup than England the World Cup. I used to love England as a kid but I was gutted watching Phillips never get a fair crack and then same happened with Bent, in his case Capello supposedly encouraging him to go elsewhere to get a chance. Capella was the bit that made me not as bothered about England, then there was Rooney. I don't think highly of that bloke in an England shirt (other than his breakout tournament at 17) I honestly don't think be cared.

I've slagged Southgate off, said his tactics are negative but he got it spot on the other night. Question about him, do you think he si the type to go into a tournament and box clever holding it back until the final?
