Is this the precision strike that took out seventy odd innocent people including kids, can't imagine it's a better place for them.
Direct quote from Hamas which you’re taking as gospel? Did you not learn from the Al Ahli debacle? Well here it is in case you’re naive enough to fall for it again: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ahli_Arab_Hospital_explosion death toll magically went from 500 to zero when it was proven to be a faulty Palestinian Jihad rocket. The IDF have shown images of the blast sight to show before and after. It wasn’t in a camp. The others killed were primarily Hamas. So odd to just trust what they say. Would you trust ISIS or Al Qaeda at face value? How do they count 70 dead within seconds but supposedly don’t know where the hostages are being kept? And even if it was in a camp, then why is the number 2 of Hamas in a camp? The size of the fish would make it a viable and proportionate target under international humanitarian law.
When journalists aren't allowed in, you can't say you know what's going on. It's either something the IDF says or something that Hamas says. If Israel have nothing to hide why have they banned journalists? Journalists report in warzones by choice (I believe). It then boils down to who you trust/ follow on social media. It's very murky.
It’s not that murky. If the IDF provide geo-coded images and all Hamas do is amplify hearsay with no proof, then the balance of probability is clear, surely? Either way, they either killed the Hamas number 2 in a civilian area, in which case it’s a tragic and disgusting abuse of his own people and thank God he’s dead so he can’t bring any further suffering to them or to Israeli civilians, or in a remote area, in which case wonderful and thank God he’s dead. If your first reaction is to trust any figures spouted off by Hamas and just to parrot them, whilst happily doubting Israel, then there’s something pretty warped in your outlook, particularly if you’ve never questioned figures from Islamic terrorist groups before and have decided that this will be the first time you blindly trust them.
Don't call me naive....you can se the devastation in Gaza, it's highly probable that, considering the damage to the buildings that there is significant collateral damage. We see kids burnt and injured on our screens, perhaps they are actors? Your final paragraph disgusts me.
The final paragraph is fact, you’re welcome to look it up. your disgust should be aimed at a group who attack innocents, take them hostage and then hide behind civilians. Have you ever expressed disgust over heads of terrorist groups being killed before? Or is this a first?
Come on. If a terrorist hid in your kids school, you would expect the government to get the kids out safely. Putin killed all the kids one time, remember that? That’s what evil dictators do. It is a sign of how cilvilised a society is when they could kill an enemy but choose not to to save lives.
That’s entirely fair and not something I would disagree with. But any government in the world would take a shot at the head of a terrorist group like Deif. He surfaces for minutes at a time. It’s not only 7/10 he masterminded but hundreds of Israeli civilian deaths during the second intifada. There were news stories at the time of bombers walking into restaurants, walking past IDF soldiers and blowing themselves up next to groups of children. This was his strategy.
I would, yes. But should Israel value a Palestinian life more highly than its leaders do? No other army in the world has ever had that modus operandi. I don’t believe they can just say “fair enough, they’re using human shields so we give up.” It’s horrible talking in such cold terms but these are the choices they face. What would you do?
There is plenty of evidence of them aborting assassination attempts because of the presence of children. There is also evidence of schools being used solely as hideouts for Hamas. So I don’t think it’s as simple as you say. Deif lives, Israeli children die. I suppose that’s the calculation for the Israeli government.
I’d also add that allowing the human shield strategy to work would send a pretty catastrophic message to terrorist groups around the world.
Yes, that Israel is expected to rank Palestinian life as more important than Hamas do. I will say again that no army has ever been expected to care more for its enemies people than the enemy themselves.
