Southgate has now got us to more finals than any England manager in history. And yet there’s a lot of vocal hate. Never understood it. He builds a team. A tough task in international football. And they win matches.
Only probs about the final I will be about 35000 feet up flying back at the same time the game kicks off
Given the impact of Watkins and Palmer and Shaw, why didn’t they start? Or, at least, a lot sooner. Ultimately, I suppose we won. Doesn’t really matter how in tournament football.
Spain will hopefully demolish England.... then they can all say they're proud of getting that far and all that wet wipe stuff
I had this problem with the WC semi final. If you're flying BA they might update you over the PA system. Or spring for the inflight wifi. Or cancel the trip.
In fairness if you got used to England pre-Southgate you learn that you don't have to plan on England making it to finals.
It took Watkins and Palmer minutes to make the winning goal - I’d bet both will be missing from the starting line up on Sunday.
England have had two fantastic groups of players, this generation and the previous. The previous was wasted and that fuels anxiety, people don't want to waste this generation. So when they see how England play under Southgate, slow, ponderous, missing chances, conceding the odd goals. People get frustrated. I think Southgate is quite a poor manager, I don't think he'd look out of place in the Championship. But international football is about that level and he has one of the best teams around.
Southgate is going to go down as the most successful manager in England’s history. Bonkers but he is.
Tactically he's been questionable but hes found something with this 3-5-2 and the last 2 games although I thought he should have bought the subs on earlier against the Swiss he's got the changes spot on the last 2 games. Taking Kane and Foden (who btw I thought was brilliant 1st half) off today was a bold move for him and it paid off. The main thing is he has developed a very mentally strong group and that is down to him I believe. Really Watkins should start in the final but that is definitely going to be a step to far. I think we'll win it though! Come on England!
The biggest change is the England youth set up, most of these lads have been involved in England for years and know each other well. So they're a better group.
Spot on. Remind me who was England U21 coach in the period leading up to Southgate taking over as Senior manager?
Strange country this. Got through to a final of the euros, further than France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Portugal etc and fans across the country just moan. I’m chuffed to ****ing bits. Dont care how we play, how we WIN, it’s a huge huge achievement.
