He is faster than DC, which counts for a lot. Can't see him being completely shaded by better teammates in the way that DC was. I increasingly agree that he seems to lack that doggedness that defines guys like Hamilton, Verstappen and Alonso who maximise every scrap of an opportunity. That said despite his experience, he is still only 24. Maybe there's still some development to come. McLaren needs to stop allowing him to make strategy calls, that much is for certain.
Zak brown needs to get off that wall and get experience in there cos he's made several mistakes today ro turn a 1/2 into 3/4. Softs? Extra laps? Should have pitted first before the others and gone mediums and charged. At least the brat was only 2nd. Why couldn't sainz punt him off ffs.
Fair enough mate- all about opinions Time will tell won’t it - I just think he’ll fight for a championship and DC was only ever an also ran who popped up with odd #2 driver win. DC only ever won 2 races at most in a season and I will be staggered if Lando doesn’t go on to eclipse that quite comfortably if McLaren get the level of car that DC had especially between 1998-2003.
Lando beating himself up, even saying the car is not at its best on softs. So who called the Softs? Would George have beaten Lewis today, I think so. Seeing the emotion in Lewis, this might heal his belief in himself, which I think has impacted his performance. Those tears were real, those tears showed he has been doubting himself.
If that turns out to be his last race win (which I hope it's not, I want a few in red) then that's a bloody good one to end on. With the young talent around, those wins are going to get harder to come by.
Yes, it will be harder, he is an old man in the F1 world, experienced, not quite as sharp. If he gets to believe in himself again, he can raise up his performance. Who knows where Newey will go, that likely will be the game changer for whichever team entice him.
I watched it live on channel 4, it was nice to hear different voices commentating on the race. Would have had to turn it down on Crofty.
Would he have beaten Lewis on a dry track, maybe, but once it got damp, George couldn't manage the conditions. That's the difference, Lewis and Max have been absolute monsters in the wet. Lando did very well as well.
Finally got around to watching the post race. I did have to laugh watching the media pen, because Checo's media person looks as disinterested as he does. Loved seeing Hamilton win this one. His response shows just how much this crap really means to him. Never seen him that emotional. Also loved seeing Max acknowledge the win on the cool down lap. Two titans
