Just goes to prove that Rosie didn’t make the most of the talents at his disposal when a promoted team prioritise DeLap, Philogene and Greaves.
Could be argued he stifled philogene's progress with his slow defensive play, but on the flip side, that style has improved the overall package in Greaves
Greaves progression may well be stifled at an under pressure Ipswich. WE all know whilst he improved immeasurably he still had his moments. For his career, learning under Dyche must surely have been the better option. Let alone being around the players in Evertons defensive team.
There’s loads of variables for greaves to consider. Go to Ipswich and be first choice CB. If he has a good season and Ipswich go down, he'll have a relegation release clause head to a bigger Prem team. If he has a good season and they stay up, he could carry on and try to establish Ipswich or he commands a slightly larger fee and still moves on. If he goes to Everton, there isn’t he same guarantee of playing time but if he does break through, Everton may price him out of a sale moving forward. As good as he is, no one’s paying what Everton could demand. it does feel like a waste for him to go to Ipswich but I can see why he might favour it.
I feel sorry for Tim, he's inherited a tiny squad that's only getting smaller. Doesn't really make sense to sack a manager when you know you're feeding on scraps the next season. Hopefully the brain trust has more than a few aces up their sleeves.
I mean Philogene was lights out beginning of the season. A mixture of his injury, teams taking him out the game and I agree some bad tactics hampered him in the second half of the season compared to the first.
but the flip side is Acun is selling early… to give Tim a huge war chest to spend to build HIS team all about perspective ….my sheets are dry, no wetting of the bed here….yet, but I do have massive concerns
I hope so, but one factor of our success last season was having the core of the squad fit and firing from match day 1, remember the previous season to that how often people bemoaned most players not having had a pre-season, it was insufferable. There's 5 weeks to go and we need 12~ signings, there are 3 players rumored to leave and none rumored to arrive. I hope we can pull it off, but my head says it's too big of an ask.
Was least about to write a post trying to figure out where we stand with positions that need filling but got really depressed, really quick. Wouldn't say we've even got a core to build around and plug gaps. Not even football manager has squad overhauls this often.
I suspect we will have a decent starting 11 when the season starts but sod all on the bench. Probably sign 5 or 6 players on deadline day
Think worryingly we're some way short of a decent starting xi atm. Pandur Coyle Jones Sean Giles/Jacob Seri Slater Lokilo Omur Sinik Longman That's probably our strongest lineup and about 50% aren't good enough
Yes we'll get the cash but we've sold the family silver, both will get England caps as ex Tigers, doubt we'll replace with future England players.
Benefit of this is the core currently being trained will be very up to speed on how the gaffer wants to play. Part of the reason why Potter failed at Chelsea was because of how big the squad was.
