Personally I’ve no strong ideas on that one. I’d rather focus on looking forward. Write off last season as moving country, language etc is hugely disruptive and second half was a poor show all round. He put some great work in off the ball when given a chance. Best we can do for him is give him a clean slate.
Rusyn’s goals came when he was moved to left wing for zorya and it was only 13 goals. Langstaff has scored 60+ in the last two seasons
Langstaff will score goals anywhere. He get 10 plus 750k is a snip. He’s not a cultured footballer he is just an instinctive striker. He’d have scored goals for us.
I’d prefer someone with pace, power movement, an emerging Watkins type, but also conscious we haven’t done a great job of recruiting for it’s far
If we could find the next Ollie we would be motoring. Little sign of one anywhere that I’m aware of though.
Hope he gets a deal. Was very good the the 21s last season and needs to either break into the first team squad this season or have a loan playing mens footy... https://x.com/sunderlandafc11/status/1809866861430927628?t=9oEMMVmndaFLcvnaKZe86g&s=19
No interpreter or coaching staff who speak his language.. Mowbray saying after months he still wasn’t playing him because he couldn’t speak English was ridiculous, why bother signing him?
40+ of them being in none league. He’s 27 and he’d managed about 40 goals in his career before that season
If Langstaff is in a dominant Championship team then I could see him getting a few, as he wouldn't need the all round game. Millwall? Hmm. Love their set pieces so there will be a few goals on offer from the ball pinballing inside the box. I can see the attraction for Millwall.
Yeah, Nisbet is more of an aerial threat as well. Langstaff is that certain type of player though, fox in the box and instinctively knows where to be to get the chances that others wouldn't.
These types of strikers thrive on space and time, something you get less and less of as you move up the pyramid and the defenders get more athletic (close you down sooner) and just become defensively better (stay closer to you), it's why Kris Boyd could get 30 a season for Rangers when playing against Falkirk and Hamilton, but usually didn't break double figures for his other clubs.
For £750k, it's hard to argue that Langstaff isn't worth a punt imo. It's a gamble with little downside and a lot of potential upside. Personally, I'm not convinced he's what we need but wouldn't have been against having him as an option at that price.
We literally had a player in the u21s who was being used as his interpreter. He was also taking English lessons from day 1 your lazy assumptions are “ridiculous”
It always baffled me that Mowbray made such a big deal of not being able to communicate with some of the places due to a language barrier. Why did the club not hire an interpreter? Why buy a player then there be this language barrier? If they were too tight for that you can translate speech on your phone these days!
How do you know? 6-12 in 46 games va our strikers in 12 games. None of ours got a run remember. Not trying to argue just putting a little perspective on it. Often wonder if maybe these youngsters would’ve got more by being played more. Still need a more seasoned striker mind
Lazy assumptions? Apologies, did Mowbray not on several occasions say he wasn’t playing because he couldn’t speak English? And Tuterov signed in the same window as Rusyn, whilst also not being able to speak much English?
