Not in my eyes it doesn't. I firmly believe his sole aim is to get us promoted to the PL then sell. How we get there and with how much debt we run up doing so is immaterial because he'd have sold the club by then and it won't be his problem. Or leave us in a load of debt trying........
Of all the big transfers this club have handled, from the £100k we got for a crocked Chris Chilton in 1971 to the millions we got for Maguire, Robertson, Clucas, Snodgrass, Ince, Bowen, KLP, etc etc etc and the lesser fees for Windass, Payton, Fettis, Whitehurst, Marwood ( in other words all our best players) we have gone from a club that owned its own ground, owned several club houses and offices, had its own training facilities in house, and a club with no debt, yes we had seasons at Boothferry Park were we showed a profit. To a club playing from a rented, shared council owned stadium from a training ground that was once a works social club and on the pitches of an amateur football team, and up to our eyes in debt. Call me old fashioned but that's how I see it.
(I've been up most of the night watching the election, hence the sceptical outlook)

Any debt comes off the selling price, so it would quite obviously be his problem and there's no indication that he's doing this for the money. He's not exactly short of that as it is.

Of course it is, Tufan played for us for two years before we sold him, Giles hasn't payed for us at all since we signed him.

We're clearly not going to sell him for £2m.

There's nothing in Boro's local rag about them bidding for Giles and all the mentions from Boro fans on social media are just quoting Baz's article.

Tufan played for us for 2 years and probably doubled his quality in that time. Giles was pretty **** for us last season. Tufan as a proven goalscoring midfielder in his prime should definitely be the more valuable of the 2 either way.

I don’t think there’s anything in it anyway.

Tufan had 1 year left on his contract on over £20k a week and wanted to go back to Turkey. Yes he scored goals and we loved him but he was mega inconsistent. The fact we have effectively got £3m for him (fee and wages) isn't too bad all things considered. He would have left on a free in 12 months time and we all know that he wouldn't perform or stay fit this season if his heart wasn't wanting to stay here.

Not a fan of selling Giles but they way to think about it is, we actually signed him in January (with payment delayed), he struggled to have the exact impact we wanted so if the right offer comes in we might look to move him on if not we see how he develops under Walter. IMO he'll flourish under Walter.

I think Baz' knowledge re Giles comes from a pre-Rosenior sacking period were the general consensus was that he didn't fit in the system. As long as the expected sales go through (Philogene and Greaves) I think he'll stay as Walter will like him.

FBs are expected to push high and operate as wide-mids/wingers under Walter which is probably Giles' best position.

It doesn't in my eyes either, but that's what he said in February 2023, no intention of buying the stadium. Seems a new training ground is also on the back burner. :emoticon-0125-mmm:

If we sell Giles and use the money to bring in Burrows from Posh then we’ll be laughing. We’ll obviously drag this out though and he’ll go to Preston

There was a club option for an extra year on Tufan's contract, he wouldn't have gone for free next season

much rather just have Giles, reckon he has the potential to be best attacking full back in the league under Walter.

He was also worth 4-5x what we sold him for in today’s market.

Burrows is miles more rounded. He’s rapid too which gives him that edge for me

If Giles did go, (as someone who still cant get his head around FFP or actually gives a hoot) , did we buy him before July 1st and if we sold him after July 1st dos that help with the head room...?

I think the idea of Tufan is much greater to us than others.

Find me a championship midfielder who scored 8 and 10 goals in a season and went for less than £2m.

I reckon you’ll be going back a few years. I’m actually genuinely intrigued if anyone knows.

Doubt you’d even find a striker with that record for that price in the last 10 years.
