It won’t help at all. And even more will be heading this way as we are an easy touch. 75 % of asylum applications fail in France, 72% succeed in the UK. You cannot access any services in france unless registered and with ID. You can ditch your ID and come here and be put up and receive health treatment with no problems. And it will no doubt be made even easier for those arriving illegally under Starmer. Having said that, legal immigration is the biggest problem and it will be interesting to see what Labour do about that.

I don’t really like Reform but their policy of increasing the tax-free threshold for income tax to £20,000 is a really good policy for working-class people. It lets people on lower incomes keep more disposable income, which they can choose to save or to spend which all goes back into the economy anyway.

I think income tax should be abolished completely anyway but that’s a separate issue.

Trouble is no income tax results in high prices for everything else. There a number of very small countries, and a couple of oil rich states, smaller ones where there is no income tax but no large, industrialised ones.

Yeah, and income taxes alone is the biggest source of revenue for the Treasury. Just north of £270 billion this year.

Ideally, I’d replace it with a LVT to make up the difference. Unlike with raising corporation tax, corporations can’t just **** off to another country with a lower tax rate to operate in as land is immovable property. They either pay the LVT or surrender ownership of the land.

Its, I think a policy to make work work.. In that if you are on a relatively low salary you won't pay tax , therefore there is an incentive to work rather than stay on the rock&roll...I am aware of the no politics rule, but I have to say its one of the better ideas I have heard over the last five weeks from anyone....

There's also an issue bubbling away in the background, probably not for this term, but if they do have a big push towards EV's there tax revenue from petrol and diesel will have to be found from somewhere.

Ironic that France whilst still within the EU elects a government prepared to tackle mass immigration at the same time as the brexited UK votes in a soft left Labour government. Will Yvette Cooper have any 'balls'?

Several states in the US have no state income tax ( you still have to pay federal tax starting at around 10% I think ) and those states seem to be very attractive

Legalise and tax drugs. If done properly, should save money on policing and criminality.

i see what you did there.

Ironic that a spokesperson for the French right wing, said that "immigrants have to be welcomed somewhere, but not in France." Which implies that they'll be attempting to send them to other European countries including the UK.

The Yvette Cooper who said she would be happy to take in a refugee but then despite having 2 houses and a load of money decided it would be all too much and didn’t?

It doesn’t seem to have done elsewhere. Gangs will still be involved offering cheaper stuff because they aren’t paying taxes like they do with cigarettes.

California gets $20 billion a year from cannabis tax revenue. Not sure anyone there buys it from an illegal dealer anymore - why bother.

    I’m not voting.

Historically I’ve voted Labour but can’t bring myself to vote for this shower of ****.

Have you seen the state of the daft twats at their conferences?

Labour Party members from the Islington Champagne Socialist Set( now referred to as the ICSS) and Labour Party voters from the working class North are polar opposites.

The ICSS would balk at being in the same room as the proletariat serfs from council estates in Hull who voted Brexit and vote Labour.

    Not for me, chef.

And pay higher sales taxes ad property taxes. A lot of them rank low on the quality of life index.
